[range][algorithm] Looking for STL adaptations

Hi Everyone, Upon my daily chugging along with the very excellent Boost libraries, I notice that I found myself writing a lot of boilerplate still granted that we already have excellent libraries: Boost.Iterator, Boost.Range, some of which aren't really that hard to implement in a generic library such as Boost. Here's a couple of things that might be good to ponder about, if people have the time to collaboratively build these libraries: * Boost.Range friendly versions of the STL algorithms -- although this may be coming up in C++0x, seeing a version of std::copy, std::transform, etc. that work with Boost.Range+Boost.Iterator combo's will be very welcome. A simple code case is: std::copy( boost::make_filter_iterator_range( is_even() ), boost::make_function_output_iterator( my_serializer() ) ); * SGI's select1st and select2nd generalized -- I'm not sure if you've found yourself dealing with std::map's and std::list<std::pair<,> >'s a lot, but I do, and there is a lot of merit in something like the following: template <const N> struct select { template <class T> mpl::at_c<T, N>::type operator() (T element) const { return mpl::at_c<T, N>(element); }; }; So that you can go ahead and see code like (with the STL adapters from above): std::transform( boost::make_range(my_map), select<1>(), std::ostream_iterator<my_map::value_type::second_type>(std::cout) ); If this is already under works, I'd love to find documentation or at least progress. If this is already done and can be found somewhere, links would be greatly appreciated. If there's interest, perhaps we can build this in the sandbox and eventually get it reviewed and submitted as part of boost? boost.m4 or how to use Boost with the GNU Autotools

Hi list, I wrote a set of M4 macros to use the Boost libraries with GNU Autoconf. I did not find any macro that was reliable enough. If you're interested, you can have a look at the code: http://repo.or.cz/w/boost.m4.git The code is currently under GPLv3+ but if Boost wants to ship this with Boost itself, and if doing this requires license adaptations, I'm inclined to use another Free license. The macros are pretty simple to use, I've tested them on MacOSX (PPC/ Intel), GNU/Linux (various distros, including Debian), Windows (XP, with MinGW, Cygwin and MSVC). [python] patch for python.jam for setting suffix on HP-UX

There is a logic in python.jam setting suffix for Boost.Python extension files on HP-UX depending on version of Python interpreter. This logic does not take into account the fact that on HP-UX PA-RISC, the suffix must be ".sl", regardless of the version of Python interpreter (I myself was not aware of this fact before yesterday when I saw the results of Boost.Python tests on HP-UX_pa_risc_gcc with Python 2.5: the tests compile, but fail at run time). Attached patch fixes the problem. Verified on HP-UX PA-RISC with Python 2.5. Verified on HP-UX ia64 with Python 2.3 and 2.5 that it does not cause any regression. The patch relies on bjam setting correctly OSPLAT variable, so, for bjam compiled with aC++ on HP-UX ia64, the patch for jam.h in http://lists.boost.org/boost-build/2007/11/17975.php should be committed first. [range] broken PTS work-arounds

Boost.range has a pile of work-arounds that made it "work" on old compilers that don't do partial template specialization. Nobody is testing those compilers anymore, so it's not surprising that those work-arounds are now broken. To wit, the following program: #include <boost/range/iterator_range.hpp> int main() {} fails to compile on VC6. If nobody is interested in these old compilers, fine. But it seems odd to be shipping work-around code that doesn't work. Should all the PTS work-around code be removed? Or can it be patched up without too much effort?
