[optional] documentation errors
by Edward Diener 19 Oct '07

19 Oct '07

In the 1.34.1 documentation for optional<T>, in the Synopsis section, it is currently written: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- template<class InPlaceFactory> explicit optional ( InPlaceFactory const& f ) ; template<class TypedInPlaceFactory> explicit optional ( TypedInPlaceFactory const& f ) ; AND template<class InPlaceFactory> optional& operator = ( InPlaceFactory const& f ) ; template<class TypedInPlaceFactory> optional& operator = ( TypedInPlaceFactory const& f ) ; -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since InPlacefactory and TypedInPlacePlactory are actual classes, these should be: template<InPlaceFactory> explicit optional ( InPlaceFactory const& f ) ; template<TypedInPlaceFactory> explicit optional ( TypedInPlaceFactory const& f ) ; AND template<InPlaceFactory> optional& operator = ( InPlaceFactory const& f ) ; template<TypedInPlaceFactory> optional& operator = ( TypedInPlaceFactory const& f ) ; ------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the Detailed Semantics these are shown correctly.

[thread] Lots of warings on MingW32?
by John Maddock 19 Oct '07

19 Oct '07

I'm getting lots of warnings of the kind: ../../../boost/thread/win32/basic_timed_mutex.hpp: In member function `void boost::detail::basic_timed_mutex::unlock()': ../../../boost/thread/win32/basic_timed_mutex.hpp:116: warning: integer overflow in expression >From gcc-mingw when using the new Boost.Thread, should I be concerned? Also from VC++ I see: ..\..\..\boost/thread/thread_time.hpp(33) : warning C4244: 'return' : conversion from '__int64' to 'unsigned int', possible loss of data ..\..\..\boost/thread/xtime.hpp(60) : warning C4244: '=' : conversion from '__int64' to 'boost::xtime::xtime_nsec_t', possible loss of data Which are rather annoying, Thanks, John.

[GIL] image analysis algorithms
by Michael Held 19 Oct '07

19 Oct '07

hi folks, what is planned for GIL in terms of image processing/analysis algorithms. (I haven't seen anything in svn) there might be night-long discussions about which algorithms are "standard" and should belong to GIL and which not. working more than three years with VIGRA I would miss most of its basic and sophisticated algorithms when migrating to boost::GIL. nobody wants to implement image labeling, seeded region growing or basic morphology again and again. I know that for most algorithms more or less efficient (sometimes even patented) versions exist and most image analysis experts will write their own. for a broader majority of people a basic repertoire of algorithms will ease the daily work-flow a lot. one idea could be to port some of VIGRAs algorithms to GIL?! cheers, michael

[intrusive] Last step for Tru64/CXX support.
by Markus Schöpflin 19 Oct '07

19 Oct '07

Hello, by now I have intrusive pass all regression tests locally. There is one modification left, which I'm not sure off, therefore I would like to ask for some advice before committing. All remaining failures are due to the implementation of offset_from_pointer_to_member(): template<class Parent, class Member> inline std::size_t offset_from_pointer_to_member( const Member Parent::* ptr_to_member) { #if ... // 1 return *(const std::ptrdiff_t*)(void*)&ptr_to_member; #elif ... // 2 const Parent * const parent = 0; const char *const member = reinterpret_cast<const char*>(&(parent->*ptr_to_member)); return std::size_t(member - reinterpret_cast<const char*>(parent)); #else ... // 3 return (*(const std::ptrdiff_t*)(void*)&ptr_to_member) - 1; #endif } Currently, variant #3 is chosen, which is obviously wrong. I tried both variant #1 and #2, and both seem to work for CXX. (All tests pass, no crashes.) So which variant should I choose? TIA, Markus

[Thread] Failed to Link libboost_thread-vc80-mt-1_34_1.lib for Itanium
by Djalma Rosa dos Santos Filho 19 Oct '07

19 Oct '07

Hi, I've taken the thread_specific_ptr for a quick bug fixing, the problem is that now I am not being able to build the application for IA64 anymore (x64/x86 versions are working smoothly for weeks). I am using Visual Studio 2005 SP1 and got the following errors and warnings: >libboost_thread-vc80-mt-1_34_1.lib(tss_pe.obj) : warning LNK4078: multiple '.CRT' sections found with different attributes (C0408040) >libboost_thread-vc80-mt-1_34_1.lib(tss_pe.obj) : error LNK2003: gp relative fixup to symbol not in short data section '_tls_used' >LINK : fatal error LNK1165: link failed because of fixup errors Can anyone shed light on this, please? Is there a chance that I made a mistake in the boost building for ia64? Any help will be appreciated. TIA Djalma
