The asio tests fail to build on Solaris 10 with gcc 4.2.1 due to apparent changes in the Boost.System library. [serialization] save_pointer_type::invoke - possible error

Hello, I'm developing custom polymorphic archive and noticed that virtual function save_null_pointer is never called for my archive. I think the problem is in save_pointer_type::invoke (boost/archive/detail/oserializer.hpp): const basic_pointer_oserializer * bpos_ptr = register_type(ar, * t); if(NULL == t){ basic_oarchive & boa = boost::smart_cast_reference<basic_oarchive &>(ar); boa.save_null_pointer(); save_access::end_preamble(ar); return; } save(ar, * t, bpos_ptr); I see no reasons to use smart_cast here. Probably there are other legitimate uses of the atomic counter that requires a memory barrier (or only an aquire), but this is not the most general case. Intel has just documented the memory model for both x86 and ia64 (thanks to gpd for this link): http://developer.intel.com/products/processor/manuals/318147.pdf Reading it, it seems to me that, if you always update a memory location with locked operations (that operate as memory barriers), then you don't need any acquire when reading that value, to ensure that you will see all the stores (before the update) from the thread that updated the value. [SVN] Trouble with commitment

In trying to commit an update, I'm getting the following message: Error Commit failed(details follow) Error MERGE request failed on '/svn/boost/branches/serialization_next_release/regression' Error 'pre-commit" hook failed with error output: And that's it - no indication of what I might to do permit this go through. [date_time, asio, range] Unused argument warning fixes

Attached is a patch against the SVN trunk that fixes several unused argument warnings from gcc. With one exception the changes are just commenting out the argument name in the function definition. but there is a more ugly fix in <asio/detail/strand_service.hpp> that is only required when building with NDEBUG defined (e.g. when assert is a noop). Can the owners of the code take a look and either commit the appropriate fixes or give me the go-ahead to do it myself. I don't want to step on any toes. -- Caleb Epstein

Hi, I ran boost/config configure on our PGI and Pathscale compilers and have create minimal headers (attached) that I'd like to add to boost/ config/compiler. Hello, I tried to compile property_tree from cvs and got an compilation error regarding to xml_parser_read_rapidxml.hpp. I've had to change: doc.parse<parse_normalize_whitespace>(&v.front()); doc.parse<parse_normalize_whitespace | parse_comment_nodes>(&v.front()); To doc.template parse<parse_normalize_whitespace>(&v.front()); doc.template parse<parse_normalize_whitespace | parse_comment_nodes>(&v.front()); Regards, Oliver
