[math-toolkit] DEFINE_BOOST_MATH_CONSTANT errors with -'ve exponents

I was browsing through the math-toolkit and noticed a neat way of type-a-fying mathematical constants. I had been doing something similar but with static constants in a struct which required definitions to be linked into each translation unit. Here's a simplified version: #define DEFINE_MATH_CONSTANT(name, x, exp)\ template <class T> inline T name() { static const T result = ::boost::lexical_cast<T>(STRINGIZE(JOIN(x, JOIN(e, exp)))); return result; } template <> inline float name<float>() { return JOIN(JOIN(x, JOIN(e, exp)), F); } template <> inline double name<double>() { return JOIN(x, JOIN(e, exp)); } template <> inline long double name<long double>() { return JOIN(JOIN(x, JOIN(e, exp)), L); } But then I went to do something like: DEFINE_MATH_CONSTANT(h, 6.62606896, -34) And got: error: pasting "e" and "-" does not give a valid preprocessing token error: exponent has no digits error: invalid suffix "F" on integer constant ... etc. etc. So I modified it to this: #define DEFINE_MATH_CONSTANT(name, x, sign, exp)\ template <class T> inline T name()\ {\ static const T result = ::boost::lexical_cast<T>(STRINGIZE(JOIN(x, JOIN(JOIN(0e, sign), exp))));\ return result;\ }\ template <> inline float name<float>()\ { return JOIN(JOIN(x, JOIN(JOIN(0e, sign), exp)), F); }\ template <> inline double name<double>()\ { return JOIN(x, JOIN(JOIN(0e, sign), exp)); }\ template <> inline long double name<long double>()\ { return JOIN(JOIN(x, JOIN(JOIN(0e, sign), exp)), L); } and now: DEFINE_MATH_CONSTANT(h, 6.62606896, -, 34) works as expected. If its not too complicated, can someone walk through the substitution process that the preprocessor is performing and highlight why pasting 'e' and '-' gives rise to an error where '0e' and '-' does not? I took a brief look at the standard and I'm guiessing it has to do with ## resulting in an invalid preprocessing token (with "e-" being invalid where "0e-" isn't??). The author of math-toolkit might want to implement such a solution as well if negative exponents could potentially be used in defining math constants. Cheers, Chris

Hello, as you probably know there's a Service Pack for Visual Studio 2005 which fixes a significant number of bugs. Unfortunately _MSC_VER is 1400 for MSVC8 with and without Service Pack, so there is no straightforward way for a library to find out whether SP1 fixes are available or not. The release notes of that Service Pack mention a fixed bug in the preprocessor messing up line counting in certain situations, so it seems there could be a way to implement a detection mechanism in the preprocessor on top of it... It works for undirected graphs too, but reports cycles twice (one for each direction). * An algorithm for visiting all the cliques a graph (Bron&Kerbosch). Works for both directed and undirected. * Derived graph measures radius and diameter (from eccentricity) and girth and circumference (from Tiernan), and clique number (from Bron&Kerbosch). * An exterior_property class that helps hides some of the weirdness with exterior properties. * runtime and compile-time tests for the new algorithms. * a substantial amount of documentation * Graph cores, implemented by David Gleich (@Stanford University) * Deterministic graph generators - capable of creating or inducing specific types of graphs over a vertex set (e.g., star graph, wheel graph, prism graph, etc). Dear All, Does anyone have any ideas about the behaviour of memory-mapped files on network filesystems, i.e. NFS and/or Windows shares? Is there any chance that Boost.Interprocess could use mmaped files on such filesystems, with instances of the program running on different machines sharing data? Regards, Phil.

[gcc] bug causing filesystem crashes

Below is a little program, made up of two files. It's a reduction of code causing filesystem crashes when compiled with g++ on some, but not all, platforms that gcc supports. It works fine with other compilers. The static version works fine, even with g++, and outputs "all's well that ends well". dll_test stackdumps at the line marked with the comment. Does anyone know what's going on here? Am I supposed to be passing some additional options to g++ when building or using shared libraries? [interprocess] upgradeable_mutex_test deadlocking on sun-5.8

The upgradeable_mutex_test test in the interprocess library is deadlocking on sun-5.8 (Sparc). This kind of problem is breaking our regression testing too often. It's not Ion's fault: the regression testing needs to be robust against this kind of failure. On Windows, we have the built-monitor option to kill stuck processes. On Unix, we could just set the ulimit and be done with it... but how to integrate this into bjam/BBv2? - Doug

[function] Function scope static not thread safe

The following code in function_template.hpp has me concerned: template<typename Functor> void assign_to(Functor f) { static vtable_type stored_vtable(f); if (stored_vtable.assign_to(f, functor)) vtable = &stored_vtable; else vtable = 0; } The function scope statics are not thread-safe as far as I know and this is potentially a show stopper for us (we're in the process of upgrading from 1.33.1 to 1.34+. Same usage in boost.serialization caused our application (very heavy threaded) to crash. Is there any plan to fix this? Or I'm wrong and this is not a problem. Regards, Sean

patch for making shared_ptr compatible with root/cint

Hi, I would like to submit a patch for shared_ptr, to make it compatible with root/cint. cint is a C++ interpreter used by the root framework, which is popular in high energy physics. Details can be found at http://root.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/ROOT/CINT. The patch uses one of the alternative "operator bool" definitions already in place when running with root/cint.
