I'm trying to get a boost-test bjam file to link to the signals library from the sandbox. Could someone help me with this. Here is a cut down version of what I have: import testing ; project : source-location . : requirements ; { test-suite pinhole : [ run TestStringProperties.cpp ] ; } I'm guessing I need to set something in requirements, but I nothing I've tried has worked. Boost engine: my two words

I am writing because i have seen many words spent about a "boost engine" as a way to promote boost. I am an average programmer involved in real life consulting for some big bank firms in Italy and i would like to share my humble point of view. One of the main markets that drives the success of a language is that of enterprise applications. Today the market of enterprise application has moved from desktop and client-server systems to three-tier web applications , so the surge of garbage collected languages like java and c#. In my opinion the success of these languages is strongly depends on the fact that they provide a standard programming environment with a standard library which is very rich in functionality. As today C++ miss a freely available library that compares to the library of java or .NET. True you can find libraries for almost every kind of needs one has, but what is missing is a freely available, complete and coherent library with all the functionality one can find in these languages. Boost success is also due to the fact that it sets a standard for C++, that it contains a coherent sets of libraries and that it covers some of what is already available in other languages. Anyway i see that still boost miss some pieces that are very important for enterprise applications: for example a logging library and a database library. A synchronous networking library could also be needed by some applications. I believe that any effort to promote boost could be better spent on developing this kind of enteprise code. Regards, Luca

Copyable mutex

Actually I don't want to copy a mutex. I just want my class that has a mutex to be copyable, without having to write a copy ctor and operator= (that copy everything except the mutex). Using this class solves the problem for me, but I have a feeling it is not safe to do this. class recursive_mutex_ignorecopy : public boost::recursive_mutex { public: recursive_mutex_ignorecopy() : boost::recursive_mutex() {} ~recursive_mutex_ignorecopy() {} recursive_mutex_ignorecopy(const recursive_mutex_ignorecopy&) {} recursive_mutex_ignorecopy& operator=(const recursive_mutex_ignorecopy&) {} }; Is this a good solution that could maybe be made part of boost, in such a way that it is guaranteed to work and be safe? First, ignore the value problems and such...I know the tests will fail. Just trying to understand typing for now. In one unit test this compiles and succeeds: CPPUNIT_ASSERT(abs(sr.get<0>() - (773.0 * rpm)) < (1.0 * rpm)); CPPUNIT_ASSERT(abs(sr.get<1>() - (.11666667 * hp)) < (.002 * hp)); That is a custom system (actually a set of independent systems since I was working in units that aren't systemic). "sr" is a tuple containing quantities of the corresponding units. In another unit test trying to work with the SI system this won't compile: vflow_qty Q = 10.0 * gpm; // 0.000630901967 m^3s^-1 vflow_qty x = .6 * m3ps; CPPUNIT_ASSERT( abs(Q - x) < (.00006 * m3ps)); // less than +/- 1% Right now gpm is just another unit instance just like m3ps - I never got past this stage in my unit testing. This DOES compile: CPPUNIT_ASSERT( abs(Q - x) < (.00006)); // less than +/- 1% The compile failure shows that abs() is returning a dimensionless type; this seems to coincide better with the documentation. If this is the case, how did the previous versions work just fine? The rpm and hp units are not dimensionless. Looking at it, the first version doesn't use my own creation of composite dimensions - maybe I don't understand how to do that correctly. Hi, I still am not able to post in doc list even though I went through all the registration/confirmation steps. Here several more issues I've got 1. No support for manual TOC This is a major issue for me. There are several problems: a) html.xsl includes chunk.xsl b) somehow it doesn't work even if I change it to chunktoc.xsl unless I remove <xsl:import href="http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/html/chunk-common.xsl"/> from chunk-common.xsl c) it still doesn't work with xsltproc unless I specify chunk.toc parameter in command line. So I can't use bjam anymore 2. Two stage processing I finally figured out why manual xslt invocation doesn't work the reason is that boostbook instead of regular customization layer approach is implemented as a preprocessor step. So I need actually two xslt calls to convert from boostbook to html. Can't we do it in one step? 3. processing instructions in boostbook->docbook conversion are lost I had to add <xsl:template match="processing-instruction()"> <xsl:copy/> </xsl:template> to docbook.xsl to address this 4. library element is converted into chapter This is incorrect decision IMO in general. At least there should be an option to convert it to book (or anything else for that matter) 5. purpose/description/effects/notes elements I completely lost why do we need so many elements with similar purpose, how are they different and when each one should be used. Any help? 6. function synopsis outside library-reference How can I do short function synopsis inside my user's guide code? 7. macro synopsis What should I use for macro synopsis specification? 8. Why signature element is only under overloaded functions and not under regular function element? This asymmetry is inconvenient IMO 9. Hello, I have been googling for a while but I cannot find the boost::interprocess library. It is not present in the libraries section or the vault section. I have heard that it makes it very easy to use shared memory and I would like to use it. Is it available for download ? Thanks a lot in advance.
