Is ptr_container compatible with xml archives? It seems to be failing to compile because reversible_ptr_container doesnt use nvp, failing to give a tag name. Best regards, -- Felipe Magno de Almeida

Why doesn't the guideline specify character-set for source files?

In Boost Library Guidelines, there aren't any specified character-sets. (are there?) Since some names of authors written in source files include high-ASCII characters that are incompatible with some other character-sets, they are unreadable for users setting non-ASCII character-sets as default like me (Japanese), and also compilers would generate warnings about it. Therefore, I think the guideline should specify character-set or limit available characters to low-ASCII only for source files to standardize way to read and process them. (To limit to low-ASCII is better for me.) Proposed boost timers library implementation concerns.

I have a few concerns at this point on the implementation of the proposed timers library. boost/timers.hpp assumes if you are not on windows you are on a posix system. I'm porting to a different platform which is neither windows nor posix compatible. WIN32_LEAN_AND_MEAN is defined in the windows device headers and then windows.h is included. This could lead to issues where depending on order of inclusion in a project WIN32_LEAN_AND_MEAN could be either defined or undefined when windows.h is included (and this is certainly imposing that define on the user). Include guards in all files begin with the reserved underscore capital letter combination. timeGetTime.hpp links against the winmm.lib and is included through a simple #include <boost/timers.hpp> even though I'm not planning to use the timeGetTime timer. Might not be a huge deal... I'll probably just have to avoid the convenience header and do preprocessor platform switching in my own application. I don't find the everything and the kitchen sink convenience header to be very useful for this library. Perhaps providing other convenience headers and typedefs for platform independent timers like for instance hires_timer, general_purpose_timer, or slow_polling_timer would be useful so ugly preprocessor switching logic can be kept out of user applications. Just a heads up to warn that, in response to review requires, John Maddock has done some more work on using policies to provide fine-grained control of what do when things go wrong (exceptions, NaNs, errno...), and whether mathematically undefined things should compile and return NaN, or not compile at all. This stuff is now in the sandbox and testing, examples and documentation are in progress, but not yet complete. The docs may not yet be fully in sync with the code - the changes have triggered a zillion minor changes in the docs :-) Using the current sandbox or final release (1.35?) code *may* require some minor changes to your code if you are/were using the existing code (reviewed but un-released). But the underlying math functions & distributions are essentially unchanged. I will post again when a version that we believe is 'release-ready' is in the sandbox. I've modified the "simple_moving_average_functor" according to your suggestions of using the boost::circular_buffer container. (see below) I'm still unclear about how to incorporate the offsets, "start" and "stop". It might be easier if you illustrate this by modifying the function "operator()". I'm not shur how to proceed. Also, what should I do with the "finalize()" function. Its required that I implement this part of the interface, but its not needed to calculate the moving_average. Yet, it requires me to return a value.
