bjam crashes when compile with gcc 4.2.0

Hi all, bjam crashes when compiled with gcc 4.2.0, simply running it will result in a crash: southpark boost_1_34_0 # ./tools/jam/src/bin.linuxx86/bjam zsh: segmentation fault Looks like a similar bug is reported a year ago to Debian bugzilla [1] [2] . Since gcc 4.2.0 is now a released compiler, imho the issue is now more important. Any ideas appreciated. Interest in a Boost.Network Library?

The title pretty much says it all... Is there interest in developing a collection of client/server protocol implementations (and a common "message" type) ? In particular, one that builds on top of Boost.Asio to implement the common protocol implementations that people usually require -- and then make it easy to create common types of server applications. In particular, the goal of the project would be to: o Come up with a common 'message' type which can be crafted as an object and passed around within/among the different networking functions/routines convertible to strings and constructible using a builder interface using Boost.Spirit o Implement some common networking protocol clients like (but not limited to) * HTTP * SMTP * SNMP o Come up with base types or template classes which can be used to implement common server facitilies (via CRTP or PBCP) and modern C++ techniques (policies, TMP, etc.) to make the implementations flexible and extensible The common message type is something I've already implemented in a different project (to be open sourced, but will serve a different purpose), which could be replicated or made generic. The semantic usage of the message type is shown below as an example/proposal: using namespace boost::network; message m; int some_value = 100; m << header("some_header", some_value) << header("multi_value", tags::multi)(another_value)(some_other_value)(yet_another) << body("The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog"); std::cout << http::message(m) (url("http://www.boost.org")) (method(http::post)) << std::endl; std::cout << smtp::message(m) (to("boost(a)lists.boost.org")) << std::endl; The above message type/object could then be used as the type commonly used by the HTTP/SMTP/SNMP protocol implementations. If there's interest, I should be able to post code soon about it. If there's already an on-going effort in this regard, I'd like to be able to contribute too. If this is already done, then pardon the noise. I can start a Sourceforge project for this, so if there are people interested in helping out I'd love to hear your ideas. Currently I've been developing it as a toy project on the side (pretty much the message type is thought out already and implemented in another project) and would like to know if people would like to use something like this and see something like it be made part of Boost. Why are the connect/disconnect methods in boost::signals not const-qualified? You want to abstract away who and how many is listening, don't you? I think it would be natural if these were const methods and emitting a signal required non-const access. This would allow me to write code like this: class SomeLogicClass { public: const signal<void()>& GetSomeEventSignal() const; }; In this case, only SomeLogicClass itself can emit signals but anyone can listen to the signal. Today I need to add a wrapper method (see below), which preferably is either templated - to accept any functor - or uses boost::function. The first option requires me to have the implementation and include <boost/signal.hpp> in the header file. The second option adds a dependency to boost::function. Eric, the attached file exibits a problem with (I think) display_expr: The second line in main() fails. But if you comment out the definition of META_EXPR(plus,left,...) and replace it with the one just below it and presently commented out then everything is fine. Seems like display_expr is not appy with function applied to more than one argument. Unless there's something stupid in my code. Regards, Maurizio

[test] comparing floating point values

OK, here is an opportunity to get me clear on comparing floating point values. I've found a very simple example, that I can not get to work -- and understand... Say I have a class that saves and restores a class. In the class, I have a double, a float, and a long double. As a test, I set the "floating" values to std::numeric_limits< T >::min() and std::numeric_limits< T >::max(), and then save the values, restore them, and compare the restored values to the originals. Obviously, I can not use BOOST_CHECK_EQUAL(), but I am clueless as to how to use the macros for comparing floating point values. Is there anything in numeric_limits that I should use to base the percentage value? Here's a chance for someone to finally clear my understanding of how to compare floating point value... please ?!?!? Thanks!

Unordered Map/Set in VC++/Boost?

Hello, I wanted to use hash maps in VC++, but it seems that they have only an old implementation, but not the tr1 unordered_map type. Actually the hash_map would have been fine if I could use it with the boost "hash" class. Anyway, after searching a bit on google, I've found a page where is mentioned something about boost having an implementation of the unordered_map. So my question is: does boost or does it not contain the unordered_map, and if not, then anyone has any idea how I could use the boost hash class with the VC++ (2005) hash_map class? In the next following days I will be posting the more important changes so we can discuss them. For now, the most important changes are: * Change replace and modify functions * Change operator[] (add standard at(key) function ) * Change the way we use tags, from free functions to member functions * Functions now takes templated CompatibleKey * Added projection of iterators * namespace boost::bimap -> namespace boost::bimaps * Improved performance * Lots of small fixes * Improved docs, new diagrams, more examples, new sections I will need CVS write access to start testing the lib.
