Java programs are easy to debug, one who catch an exception can print the stack trace, and when it crash, it would print the stack, too. [thread] patch for tss.cpp (win32 + static linking support)

Hi, I believe I've found a bug in tss.cpp, for details please ref http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.boost.user/26591 . The immediate fix is straightforward, it just involves resetting the native tss value after deleting the pointed-to data at thread exit. Patch is attached to this message. The changes only affects the Win32 platform and I've run the supplied tests under libs/thread/test to verify that it doesn't break anything obvious. As the bug involves dereferencing a dangling pointer and isn't detected most of the time, I'd really appreciate if the patch could be accepted as soon as possible. I'm awaiting Roland Schwartz to "bless" the patch. If he agrees, would it be possible to accept this for 1.34? / Johan

[rpc/marshal] prototype rpc / marshal library using asio and serialization (and futures in the future?)

Hello, I have uploaded some documentation and code of a prototype RPC / marshal library: http://dancinghacker.com/code/marshal/ It differs from the one I attached yesterday in that it actually works :-) Tested on Win/MSVC, *should* build on GCC (haven't tested on GCC after recent changes). The code is pretty infant but shows some functionality. The docs on the above website show an example and some discussion points. In addition to what's listed at the website, I'm wondering what the proper way of returning the function call results would be... For example, if the function is void something(int &x), should the modified "x" value on the remote computer appear in the local x after the remote call returns? I can see that as being reasonable if the RPC is synchronous, but if it is asynchronous maybe something like a future would be a good way of providing the modified value? (speaking of, could someone suggest a futures implementation out of the ones that were floating around a while back?) The alternative would be to have all modified parameter values be stored in a call structure (which is what happens now with the regular return value) and accessible from there. Hi, I am designing a server which will going to run on multiprocessor and which will going to provide service to thousand of clients concurrently. I am using boost asio library to do this. I want to use one io_service object per CPU approach for this. Let me describe what I want... 1. I want to create ioservice object as per the no of CPU I have, so that I can distribute the load evenly. 2. How to create a list of ioservice object & make them running all the time even when there is no request to process. What's the definition of idle ioservice in this case... the one which is this the one which is not handling any connection? How can I choose a ioservice out of a pool of idle service whenever a new request comes from the client. 3. Can I restrict no of clients(connections) on each io service, lets say 500 connection on each ioservice or so ? Hello, I'm looking for the boost::ublas bindings but I can't find them on the CVS or anywhere. Do you guys know where they are ? [boost::proto] bug with large (> 8) values for BOOST_PROTO_MAX_ARITY

The following piece of code compiles fine: #define BOOST_PROTO_MAX_ARITY 8 #include <boost/xpressive/proto/proto.hpp> while the following gives errors #define BOOST_PROTO_MAX_ARITY 9 #include <boost/xpressive/proto/proto.hpp> and so on for any value of BOOST_PROTO_MAX_ARITY larger than 8. If there's a real problem with more than eight, it would be good to have an #error statement in that case. I'm really interested in having patterns with those many arguments, so once the variable controlling the maximum arity and the one controlling the maximum number of subpatterns in a pattern get decoupled I may be fine, but still giving a clear error message would be helpful. I only need BOOST_PROTO_MAX_ARITY=8. I tried 9 just because I was getting ambiguous conversions, which in the past were due to this. Best regards, Maurizio

Math Toolkit review

I realize that the math toolkit library review ended on 4/27 but better late than never. I have been experimenting with it for the last two weeks. In particular, I have tried to use several distributions (normal, student t, uniform etc), some special functions, and root finders. In all my tests the math library performed as expected, it was fast and reasonably well documented. Note that my testing did not include all functionality in the library. One suggestion - the "normal_distribution" which is implemented by the math library puts it in the boost::math namespace. The "normal_distribution" random generator which is implemented by the random library puts it in the boost namespace. In order to be consistent (and avoid conflicts) the random library should put its classes in the boost::random namespace. All in all, I find the library very useful and I already started using it in my code. Vladimir Valenta
