Hi Chris, Is boost::asio_io_service::interrupt() defined windows? After reading the paper referenced in http://lists.boost.org/Archives/boost/2007/04/120230.php I decided to set about implementing something similar to it in C++. You can see the current results here: http://magila.googlepages.com/template.zip It uses Spirit for parsing and AST generation and Property Tree for storing the dynamic data. Still on my todo list is making the character type a template parameter, currently everything just uses char. Also expand() should probably be made a free function. Obviously the main interest is as a companion for the forthcoming cgi library. So what do you think? Interesting? Not? Steven Siloti

[1.34.0beta] many, many warnings... :(

Hei, I'm trying to build the project I'm working on with boost 1.34.0-beta. We have used 1.33.1, and 1.32 before that. I cannot recall having seen so many warnings being spit at me than now (of course, we have started to use a lot more boost libraries in the last two years, and I have been using the Debian packages for 1.33.1 which apparently had a slew of those warnings fixed). I see not only warnings for esoteric levels like when using a C-style cast, but also whenever BOOST_WORKAROUND is used, which apparently expands to something like #if __MACRO__ rel version which prompts gcc to warn about __MACRO__ not being defined. This is purely a quality of implementation issue, I know, and I have seen people sending patches for these things (incidentally, Debian people :), but I want to put in my voice from the trench that I'm disappointed that less and less of boost compiles w/o warnings. I for one think that this is a serious issue, and I encourage you to accept such patches (not for 1.34.0, obviously, but 1.34.1) and make it a release goal for 1.35 (or 1.34.1) to reduce the number of warnings to a decent level. Maybe change the regression tests to highlight any kind of compiler diagnostics in <pick your favorite color>. And: Debianers, keep up the good work! Hello guys, I finally got time on my hands to battle with quickbook and eventually I got it working ! So here's the (incomplete) documentation : http://www.unitedsoft.ch/boost/libs/timers/ And here's the current version of the timers library : http://www.unitedsoft.ch/boost/boost_timer_2007_30_4.tgz http://www.unitedsoft.ch/boost/boost_timer_2007_30_4.zip The documentation is not complete at all, but the main idea is there so I'd like you to express all the constructive criticism you guys might find about the library & documentation. Now I'll raise a couple of questions : 1. Does any of you have a better idea for the devices/timer names ? I'm not very fond of "gstaft_device" to express "GetSystemAsFileTime's device" but I can't find a better way. I thought of a devices<getsystemtimeasfiletime>::type mpl approach but it doesn't sounds so nice either. 2. I renamed boost::timer to boost::timers because the templated timer class should not have the same name as the namespace it lives in, if you have another idea for the organisation please share. Like should I make the "portable" namespace at all ? If not, should I move the devices/timers in that namespace in the boost::timers namespace ? 3. Does anyone know if std::clock() isn't implemented on "linux" ? On the unbuntu and gentoo boxes I tried it keeps returning 0, while on windows it works. 4. Does anyone know what's wrong in my getrusage() or GetThreadTimes() usage ? I can't see what's wrong but it also returns 0. 5. I'm looking to know about the overhead & resolution for all the apis used, if you have such informations please tell me :) 6. Once finalized all this, what's next ? Should I put the whole thing in a boost review ? 7. Should I write unit tests for this library ? I'm afraid it wouldn't make a lot of sense... Thank you ! Philippe

The basic problem is that inside a class template X, Borland cannot refer to its own specialization as simply X, but must qualify with the template arguments: i.e. template< class T > struct X { typedef X self_type; // most compilers typedef X< T > self_type; // Borland requires this }; Note that there are a couple of places where this IS figured correctly, and I think that overly-brief example might be one ;¬) The essential patch follows the same formula, but is applied to each numbered vector-type in vector50.hpp, vector100.hpp, vector150.hpp and vector200.hpp. As a cut-down example: template< class P0 , class P1 , class P2 > struct vector3 { typedef v_iter<vector3, boost::mpl::int_<0> > begin; typedef P0 item0; typedef P1 item1; typedef P2 item2; typedef mpl::int_<1> item3; typedef mpl::int_<1> item4; typedef mpl::int_<1> item5; }; becomes: template< class P0 , class P1 , class P2 > struct vector3 { // Note template args below typedef v_iter< vector3< P0, P1, P2 >, boost::mpl::int_<0> > begin; typedef P0 item0; typedef P1 item1; typedef P2 item2; typedef mpl::int_<1> item3; typedef mpl::int_<1> item4; typedef mpl::int_<1> item5; }; I have marked up all the necessary vectorX in vector50.hpp only (so far) and all inside a #if BOOST_WORKAROUND for Borland, rather than mess up the 'clean' registration for other compilers. THis is the basis of the test results. Would it be OK to commit this patch? (not attached as it would be a large and boring file) or would you prefer to look at other kinds of workaround? So far I have not investigated the vector.hpp file itself, which I think is used to generate the 50/100/150/200 files.
