[Boost-bugs] [ boost-Patches-1583399 ] [test] evc4 issue with SEH support

Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Michael Fink (vividos) >Assigned to: Gennadiy Rozental (rogeeff) Summary: [test] evc4 issue with SEH support Initial Comment: Hi, I'm trying to port Boost 1.34 to the eMbedded Visual C++ compiler. I encountered an error in boost/test/impl/execution_monitor.ipp where it is checked if the platform being used supports SEH and defines BOOST_MS_STRUCTURED_EXCEPTION_HANDLING in that case. evc4 and the Windows CE 4.2 platform supports SEH, but it doesn't provide <eh.h> for setting structured exception translators. For this reason this patch disables the whole feature, at least for Windows CE 4.2. It additionally patches a line where a warning is output with the preprocessor statement "#warning" that isn't supported on evc4. I think the more portable version of this is "#pragma message". ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Michael Fink (vividos) Date: 2006-10-24 03:26 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=124874 I just saw that this is a duplicate of patch #1499418. The only difference is that it limits the exclusion of the code to Windows CE 4.2, as that is the only platform I could test compiling. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=307586&aid=1583399&group_… ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. [Boost-bugs] [ boost-Patches-1583396 ] [mpl] evc4 port
by SourceForge.net 11 Jan '07

Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Michael Fink (vividos) >Assigned to: Aleksey Gurtovoy (agurtovoy) Summary: [mpl] evc4 port Initial Comment: Hi, I'm trying to port Boost 1.34 CVS to the eMbedded Visual C++ 4 compiler. In many projects there are compiler errors that lead back to MPL header files located in boost\mpl\aux_\preprocessed\msvc60\, or.hpp and and.hpp. They produce the following errors (example for or.hpp): or.hpp(41) : error C2908: explicit specialization; 'or_impl<0>' has already been instantiated from the primary template or.hpp(41) : error C2039: 'result_' : is not a member of '`global namespace'' or.hpp(41) : error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before '<' or.hpp(41) : error C2059: syntax error : '<' or.hpp(43) : error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before '{' or.hpp(43) : error C2447: missing function header (old-style formal list?) The following patch would add the necessary specialisation for or_impl<true> and and_impl<true> to the struct definition directly, and only for the evc4 compiler (msvc8 with ARM target wouldn't use the alternative code). As I guess from the folders name the files are auto-generated. If the patch is rejected, is there a possibility to generate the proper code for the evc4-compiler? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Mateusz Loskot (mloskot) Date: 2006-10-24 09:11 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=736047 The eVC++ 4.0 compiler is based on Visual C++ 6.0, so templates support is weak. Theoretically, is it feasible to build MPL using these compiler at all? The ignore_unused_variable_warning workaround is already used in the file to patch in a lot of places. The fact that it isn't used in this one looks like an oversight. Ok to commit? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: hxpro (hxpro) Date: 2006-01-10 04:34 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1211438 So I suppose it helps if I actually attatched the patch ... My quick $.02: using double as the default makes perfect sense. As a developer, you are always free not to use the default. As a library user, you are stuck with whatever the library developers give you - but the same would be true even if there were no default. So I see no downside, and the upside is that the library is easier to use for beginners and for quick prototyping. - James Jones Administrative Data Mgmt. Review Request: Statistical Distributions and Mathematical Special Functions
by John Maddock 10 Jan '07

10 Jan '07

The "Math Toolkit" has now matured to the point where Paul Bristow and I would like to ask for a formal review. The toolkit contains: Statistical distributions: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bernoulli, Beta, Binomial, Cauchy-Lorentz, Chi Squared, Exponential, Extreme Value, F, Gamma (and Erlang), Log Normal, Negative Binomial, Normal (Gaussian), Poisson, Students t, Triangular, Weibull, Uniform. Operations on distributions: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ cdf, cdf complement, cumulative hazard, hazard, kurtosis, kurtosis_excess, mean, median, mode, pdf, range, quantile, quantile from the complement, skewness, standard_deviation, support, variance. Special Functions: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The focus is twofold: functions required for the implementation of the statistical distributions, and functions that are part of TR1: Gamma Functions (Gamma, Log Gamma, Digamma, Ratios of Gamma Functions, Incomplete Gamma Functions, Incomplete Gamma Function Inverses, Derivative of the Incomplete Gamma Function). Factorials and Binomial Coefficients (Factorial, Double Factorial, Rising Factorial, Falling Factorial, Binomial Coefficients). Beta Functions (Beta, Incomplete Beta Functions, Incomplete Beta Function Inverses, Derivative of the Incomplete Beta Function). Error Functions (erf/erc, Error Function Inverses). Polynomials (Legendre (and Associated) Polynomials, Laguerre (and Associated) Polynomials, Hermite Polynomials, Spherical Harmonics). Elliptic Integrals(Carlson Form, Elliptic Integrals of the First Kind - Legendre Form, Elliptic Integrals of the Second Kind - Legendre Form, Elliptic Integrals of the Third Kind - Legendre Form). Logs, Powers, Roots and Exponentials (log1p, expm1, cbrt, sqrt1pm1, powm1, hypot). Sinus Cardinal and Hyperbolic Sinus Cardinal Functions (sinc_pi, sinhc_pi). Inverse Hyperbolic Functions (acosh, asinh, atanh). Floating Point Classification: Infinities and NaN's Unified Error Handling. Misc Tools: ~~~~~~~~~~~ Series Evaluation, Continued Fraction Evaluation, Root Finding With Derivatives, Root Finding Without Derivatives, Function Minimization. Availability: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Head to the Boost Vault (http://boost-consulting.com/vault) select the "Math - Numerics" directory, and you will find: math-toolkit-code.tar.bz2 Headers and tests: note only available in bz2 format due to size restrictions in the vault :-( If this causes undue problems let me know. math-toolkit-docs.zip HTML format docs. math_toolkit.pdf PDF format docs. Instructions: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Extract to a directory *separate* from your boost tree, then set the environment variable BOOST_ROOT to point to a copy of boost-1.34 (release branch cvs) or to 1.35 (cvs HEAD). Sorry but Boost-1.33.x or earlier won't work. The Jamfiles should then "just work" and enable testing of the library without having to integrate into your Boost tree. Please note that in order to catch regressions the tolerances for the tests are set quite low: when they are first run on a new platform many tests will very likely fail, a human eyeball then has to be cast over the results and judge whether the error rates are acceptable or whether they represent real issues. Currently the lib has been tested on Win32, Linux, HP-UX and FreeBSD with a variety of compilers (VC++ Intel, gcc, HP aCC). Review Manager: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Should some kind soul care to volunteer, we would be very grateful :-) Many thanks for your consideration, John Maddock.
