Hm, really i started out porting from unix to windows using cccl, but it took not too long to realize that cccl is far to less powerfull. Cccl is capable of translating some command line options, not really much more. This doesn't mean cccl is bad. If one doesn't need more than this, its perfect. Wgcc is just _more_ and more powerfull. Cccl has, i don't know, say 200 lines of shell script code? Wgcc has about 10.000 lines of c++ code (9305). It does a little more than just wrapping around the command line. It has many benefits over comparable wrappers like cccl, c89 (interix) and wcc (interix, see interopsystems.com) which are all shell scripts just wrapping some arguments. You may want to take a look at the docs for rc.1. there is a section about building libraries with wgcc which may be of interest regarding this question... Backporting Boost 1.33.1 to Debian Sarge HOWTO

Hi all! =) I'm Zak, a rather new user to the Boost libraries (and, in some ways, to C++ as well ;) I've been lurking this and the boost-users list for a few days now (I got wind of this from Dean Berris.) I'm pretty much a Perl monk, but I've been pulled into the C++ whirlpool to work on a project that involves, among other things, an Egyptian god, some chunky boys, and portals. Anyhow, I came to using Boost mostly because of my current work, and I hit a bump along the way since I am required to deploy Boost 1.33.1 to Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 (aka Sarge,) and that particular target platform had only Boost 1.30 installed. Hence, being not so much as a C++/Boost expert, but rather more game towards packaging stuff for Debian and Ubuntu, I chose to repackage and backport Boost 1.33.1 from Debian Sid to Sarge, adding Boost.Asio while on it. ;-) How did I do it? Rather than writing it down here, I have exercised my freedom to write everything about it on the Boost Wiki[0] in the page `BackportingBoostToDebianSarge'[1] and give a little something back to the Boost community. Please, consider basic_binary_iprimitive.hpp line 163: 163: if(count != static_cast<std::size_t>(s)) but it should be: 163: if(scount != static_cast<std::size_t>(s)) And the same typo in line 174: 174: if(count != 1) should be 174: if(scount != 1) instead. Hi All, The view of the Boost.MPI (for Message Passing Interface) begins today, Sept. 6 and continues through Sept. 15. Description: The Message Passing Interface (MPI) is a standard interface for message passing in high-performance parallel applications. It defines a library interface, available from C, Fortran, and C++, for which there are many MPI implementations. Although there exist C++ bindings for MPI, they offer little functionality over the C bindings. The Boost.MPI library provides an alternative C++ interface to MPI that better supports modern C++ development styles, including complete support for user- defined data types and C++ Standard Library types, arbitrary function objects for colective algorithms, and the use of modern C++ library techniques to maintain maximal efficiency. As an example, one can concatenate the std::strings stored on each processor with a single reduce call and the function object std::plus<std::string>. However, if the call to reduce is merely computing the sum of integers, the implementation transforms into the appropriate call to MPI_Reduce.
