In trying to run release-build regression tests on the Serialization library, I found a Borland 5.6 crasher in the test library. It's surely a codegen bug, but it left me wondering why, if I have to link to the test library anyway, the library is putting retrieve_framework_parameter in an unnamed namespace, making me compile it into each **translation unit** of my test. This non-templated function, it seems to me, could be compiled into the test library. Robert, I'm just about done. I'm unable to test on cw-8.3 at the moment because the test library seems to be broken there. As for cw-9.4, the export tests never worked there, presumably for the same reason I'm seeing: when a class template static member is used only as the result of another template instantiation, it may never get initialized. As a result, base/derived relationships are not getting registered. Aside from that, all export tests seem to be passing, including release mode tests on vc-8.0. I was able to clean up a *lot* of messy code. Would you like me to: 0. Check my code in on the trunk 1. Check my code in on a branch so you can review it 2. As a part of a project I needed to compare performances of boost::multi_index hashed_unique/ordered_unique indexes with those of std::tr1::unordered_set, __gnu_cxx::hash_set, std::set. multi_index performance documentation page does not provide this kind of information, so I had to write my own test. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 It seems to be a recurring problem that, in designing secure server-side software, it is difficult to distinguish between variables containing trusted and untrusted input. I would propose the addition of a library to Boost that attempts to alleviate these kinds of issues by providing a template for "trusted types," as well as methods that can be marked as requiring trusted input. For instance: boost::trust::trusted<std::string> ts; cin >> ts; cout << ts.trusted(); // returns false escape_string(ts); cout << ts.trusted(); // returns true foo(ts); where foo() would have a prototype looking like: void foo(boost::trust::trusted<std::string, MUST_TRUST> str); I have not written any actual code to back up this idea, but rather wanted to propose the idea to the list first. The idea for how this would work hinges on trusted<T> offering two casting operators: one to const T and one to T. Any use of the non-const cast would result in the trust flag being set to untrusted.
