integral_promotion.hpp & old EDG problem

The new integral_promotion.hpp doesn't compile with the old EDG238-based MIPSpro 7.3.1 compiler (SGI, IRIX). This breaks our Boost.Python build. However, with the simple patch below the build is OK again. I'd love to maintain the MIPSpro Boost.Python build, but it is not worth serious work. Therefore the patch is simply #ifdef'ing out the two promotion header files for this specific platform. Are there any objections against this approach? Thanks! Is there interest for a small portable garbage collection library?

Dear boost developers, Is there any interest for a small portable garbage collection library? I have written such a library to use for my personal projects and I would like to share it with the community, as I think it is very helpful in developing certain kinds of applications. Features: -small (under 2000 LOC) -portable (no lowlevel OS/CPU/compiler-specific features) -precise mark & sweep collection -no dependencies; headers only -weak pointers -garbage-collected arrays -customizable collector with user-defined finalizer and mark functions -wrapper class for external non-garbage-collected classes -thread-based collection "Thread-based collection" means the library can only support thread-specific collectors. I did not want to introduce dependencies on specific threading libraries, as they vary from project to project (and if many threads compete for the same collector, applications tend to slow down). The library, as it is, provides a collector for the main thread, but the function that returns the current collector can be modified to return a thread-specific collector (using thread-specific-storage). I have posted an article on www.codeproject.com about it along with the source code, code documentation and unit tests. It can be found here: http://www.codeproject.com/useritems/libgc.asp I have also posted a file release on sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/libgc I have tested the code (so far) in vc++ 7.1, but I think it will work on GCC and other compilers, as it does not use any O/S-specific and compiler-specific features. Hi All, the proposed Boost.PQS (Physical Quantities System) library facilitates modelling physical quantities in C++ programs. The Formal Review dates for the review of PQS have now been confirmed... The PQS Formal Review will run from Wednesday 31st of May to Friday 9th of June. pqs_3_1_0 is the Official Boost Review version of PQS. (Please note that pqs_3_1_0 has a bug in one header. This can be either patched according to the latest release notes, "relnotes.txt" available from http://tinyurl.com/7m5l8 or alternatively simply download pqs_3_1_1, which is basically equivalent to pqs_3_1_0, except the bug has been fixed there. Suggestion: Composing a review of the PQS library could be a great way to relax! regards Andy Little

The macro BOOST_TT_AUX_BOOL_TRAIT_DEF1 is only designed to be used inside namespace boost, but here it is used inside boost::type_traits::detail, causing Borland to complain that there is no definition for the symbol `template_arity' (in that scope). -- Dave Abrahams Boost Consulting www.boost-consulting.com

Hi, If you add const-qualification to array type *by hand* when using metafunctions, VC7.1 seems to fail to order partial specialized templates. (VC8 has no problem.) For trivial example, int arr[10]; boost::begin(arr); fails under 1.34.0. He can't find partial specialization for array. I don't know what happens, but the workaround is known. That is, under VC7.1, please prefer the form typename range_metafunction<typename boost::add_const<T>::type>::type to typename range_metafunction<const T>::type everywhere T can be an array type. -- Shunsuke Sogame
