[mpl][test] Plans for supporting sunpro-5_8-sunos and dmc- 8_47?
by Andreas Huber 16 Feb '06

16 Feb '06

Are there any plans for mpl and test support for these compilers in 1.34? I'm asking because many statechart failures on these compilers are actually mpl or test failures. If there are no plans I'll simply mark statechart unusable, no problem. If there are plans however, I'll probably need to reserve considerable time for investigating failures... Rene (or whoever knows), I want to create a page for the qcc tools based on the gcc page. Where is the working copy of the documentation currently located? Jim

[1.34] Feature Freeze
by Thomas Witt 16 Feb '06

16 Feb '06

Hi, as announced earlier the Boost CVS is in feature freeze mode (Release Stage 3) now. In case you really need to put more features in please talk to me *first*. Let's shoot for a branch for release in 4 weeks from now. Please focus on fixing regressions for the next 4 weeks. One more thing that needs to be done is updating the what's new in 1.34.0 section in boost/index.htm. Could every library author please check whether the latest cool features for her/his library are in there and if not add them. Thanks! Thomas Release Manager 1.34.0 -- Thomas Witt witt(a)acm.org

[Serialization] Compilation error for private & protected derived classes
by John Reid 16 Feb '06

16 Feb '06

Hi, The following will not compile although if the inheritance is public there are no problems. The documentation implies that it should work. I cannot find a friend function declaration to put in Derived that will make MSVC8 happy. I am using boost 1_33_1. Oleg Abrosimov already reported this: http://lists.boost.org/Archives/boost/2005/12/98305.php Any feedback appreciated, John Reid #include <boost/archive/text_oarchive.hpp> #include <list> #include <fstream> typedef std::list< int > base_t; struct Derived : private base_t //*** change to public to compile *** { friend class boost::serialization::access; template<class Archive> void serialize(Archive &ar, const unsigned int version) { // save/load base class information ar & boost::serialization::base_object< base_t >(*this); } }; void save(Derived const & derived, const char * const filename) { std::ofstream ofs(filename); boost::archive::text_oarchive oa(ofs); oa << derived; } ********************************************************************** This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. [Review] Shmem
by Fred Bertsch 16 Feb '06

16 Feb '06

Hello everyone, The review of the proposed Boost Shmem library written by Ion Gaztañaga starts today (February 6th, 2006) and ends after 10 days (February 16, 2006). Documentation for the library can be found online here: http://tinyurl.com/e2os3 Both documentation and the library itself can be downloaded here: http://tinyurl.com/9t5qy --------------------------------------------------- About the library: The Shmem Library simplifies the use of shared memory and provides some STL compatible allocators that allow shared memory STL container placement. It also offers helper classes, such as offset pointers, process shared mutexes, condition variables, and named semaphores. Library users can apply all STL algorithms and utilities with created shared memory objects. Shmem also wants to present a portable implementation, unifying UNIX and Windows shared memory object creation, providing simple wrapper classes. Shmem offers the following to the user: - Portable synchronization primitives for shared memory, including shared mutexes and shared condition variables. - Dynamic allocation of portions of a shared memory segment. - Named allocation in shared memory. Shmem can create objects in shared memory and associate it with a c-string offering a similar mechanism to a named new/delete. Created object can be found by other processes using Shmem framework. - Offset pointers that can be safely placed in shared memory to point to another object of the same shared memory segment even if the memory is mapped to a different address. - STL compatible shared memory allocators so that STL containers can be placed in shared memory. Shmem also offers a pooled node allocator to save and optimize shared memory allocation in node containers. - STL compatible containers for systems with STL implementations that cannot deal with shared memory. The user can map shared memory to different addresses and use STL compatible containers and algorithms. Useful to store common data or implement shared memory databases. These containers also show how STL compatible containers can make use of shared memory STL compatible allocators to place such containers in the shared memory. Shmem also offers the basic_string pseudo-container to use full-powered C++ strings in shared memory. --------------------------------------------------- Please always state in your review, whether you think the library should be accepted as a Boost library! Additionally please consider giving feedback on the following general topics: - What is your evaluation of the design? - What is your evaluation of the implementation? - What is your evaluation of the documentation? - What is your evaluation of the potential usefulness of the library? - Did you try to use the library? With what compiler? Did you have any problems? - How much effort did you put into your evaluation? A glance? A quick reading? In-depth study? - Are you knowledgeable about the problem domain? [range] support ATL/WTL/MFC collections
by Shunsuke Sogame 16 Feb '06

16 Feb '06

Hi, After complaints about the customization way, I'm making Boost.Range support for ATL/WTL/MFC collections and strings. I know current Boost.Range contains a few and those are somewhat illegal. ;-) Well, before I upload them to Vault, I want a namespace and macro-prefix for the implementation something like boost::ranges::??? and BOOST_RANGES_???. Where can I place them? -- Regards, Shunsuke Sogame

[Boost.Build V2] Digital Mars toolset
by Vladimir Prus 16 Feb '06

16 Feb '06

Hello! I'm posting this message to main mailing list just in case not everyone reads boost-build list. As a part of making Boost.Build V2 fully ready for C++ Boost, I've ported the dmc toolset from V1. The new toolset is attached for convenience. For now, STLPort support is not implemented. I'd appreciate if somebody with access to that compiler test the toolset as documented on: http://zigzag.cs.msu.su/boost.build/wiki/TestingNewToolset If somebody is potentially interested with testing, but does not have the time right now, just add a note to: http://zigzag.cs.msu.su/boost.build/ticket/35 and I'll ping you at time convenient for you. Thanks in advance, Volodya _______________________________________________ Unsubscribe & other changes: http://lists.boost.org/mailman/listinfo.cgi/boost-build
