property_tree review request
by Marcin Kalicinski 23 Jan '06

23 Jan '06

Hi, I would like to request review of property_tree library. It is available for download at http://boost-consulting.com/vault, current filename is property_tree_rev4.zip. Documentation is also available online at http://kaalus.atspace.com/ptree A short description: Property tree is a data structure - a tree of (key, value) pairs. It differs from its cousin, "usual" property map, because it is hierarchical, not linear. Thus, it is more like a minimalistic Document Object Model, but not bound to any specific file format. It can store contents of XML files, windows registry, JSON files, INI files, even command line parameters. The library contains parsers for all these formats, and more. By any chance it is not a substitute for (upcoming?) boost XML library - it only supports a subset of XML, and focuses rather on being format-independent. cheers, Marcin

@#ifdef tokens
by Guillaume Desticourt 23 Jan '06

Hello, i tried to use Aspectc++ with boost, and it failed to parse such token as: @#ifdef a simple grep show me several occurrence of this: ultimatetrader% grep -nr '@#if' /usr/include/boost/* /usr/include/boost/type_traits/detail/is_mem_fun_pointer_impl.hpp:788:@#ifndef BOOST_TT_NO_ELLIPSIS_IN_FUNC_TESTING /usr/include/boost/type_traits/detail/is_mem_fun_pointer_impl.hpp:793:@#if !defined(BOOST_TT_NO_CV_FUNC_TEST) /usr/include/boost/type_traits/detail/is_mem_fun_pointer_impl.hpp:803:@#ifndef BOOST_TT_NO_ELLIPSIS_IN_FUNC_TESTING /usr/include/boost/type_traits/detail/is_function_ptr_tester.hpp:580:@#ifndef BOOST_TT_NO_ELLIPSIS_IN_FUNC_TESTING /usr/include/boost/type_traits/detail/is_function_ptr_tester.hpp:584:@#ifdef BOOST_TT_TEST_MS_FUNC_SIGS /usr/include/boost/type_traits/detail/is_function_ptr_helper.hpp:215:@#ifndef BOOST_TT_NO_ELLIPSIS_IN_FUNC_TESTING i don't think the '@#ifdef' is standart c++, is it? how come c++ compilers (at leat g++) don't fail on these tokens? i use libboost-dev 1.32.0+1.33.0-cvs20050727-1ubuntu1, if it helps.... regards, -- Guillaume Desticourt

[Boost-bugs] [ boost-Bugs-1412760 ] wave method visibility issue...
by SourceForge.net 23 Jan '06

Bugs item #1412760, was opened at 2006-01-23 12:15 Message generated for change (Tracker Item Submitted) made by Item Submitter You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=107586&aid=1412760&group_… Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: Alexander Floh (uber_lexx_) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: wave method visibility issue... Initial Comment: in wave's cpp_context.hpp file the lines 188 and following look something like this #if !defined(BOOST_NO_MEMBER_TEMPLATE_FRIENDS) protected: /* stuff */ #endif /* helper methods */ if i've read this correctly, if BOOST_NO_MEMBER_TEMPLATE_FRIENDS is declared, then the helper method's visibility is public, otherwise it is protected. since i could find no reason why the helper methods should be public, i think you may want to put the protected before the #if !definded(...). br, alexander floh ps: if i'm completely wrong i apologize for bothering you ;) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=107586&aid=1412760&group_… ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. Winzip gives the following error: **Error reading header after processing 0 entries** I don't have other decompression tools at my current location. Any chance you can upload that to a zip format? I'm interested to see how you handled the lock and unlock logic for your smart pointers.

pqs physical quantities library version 3_0_4 in the vault
by Andy Little 23 Jan '06

23 Jan '06

Version 3_0_4 of pqs is in Physical Quantities Units directory in the vault. The major change is that pqs_3_0_4 has been tested on various compilers including gcc3.2, gcc4.01, VC7.1, VC8 where previously it only worked on VC7.1. Still no real documentation though. regards Andy Little

[typeof-users] Looking for a consistent scheme for adding Typeof support to Boost libraries
by Tobias Schwinger 22 Jan '06

22 Jan '06

Dear Boost developers, based on some experiments which I recently made with Typeof and Spirit, Joel de Guzman asked me if I would like to add "official" Typeof support to Spirit and got me in touch with Dan Marsden, who recently added experimental Typeof support to Phoenix2. Dan and I started discussing how Typeof support could look like for the two libraries and agreed in one important point: things should be consistent. Dan pointed out to me that it would be best to use a consistent scheme for adding Typeof support not only for Spirit and Phoenix2 but for all Boost libraries and therefore suggested shifting the discussion (previously in private email) to the Boost developers mailinglist. There are some suggestion on how such a scheme could look like at the end of this post. I'm looking forward to your comments. Thanks, Tobias Suggestions on possible schemes: ( 'a_lib' in the examples denotes a placholder for the name of the library, 'a_component.hpp' denotes the name of a public header of the library. ) 1. Create a 'typeof_support' directory reflecting the public headers of the library. The user enables Typeof support by including additional headers. Example: #include <boost/a_lib/a_component.hpp> // ^^^ usual library header #include <boost/a_lib/typeof_support/a_component.hpp> // ^^^ contains the registration for the header above 2. The Typeof registration is done in one separate header per library (module) that checks the include guards to register the components, where the registration is guarded by "registration guards" (as suggested by Arkadiy Vertleyb in the "Typeof and MPL" thread). The user enables Typeof support for the whole library by including a single header. Example: #include <boost/a_lib/a_component.hpp> #include <boost/a_lib/typeof_support.hpp> // The typeof_support header would do the following: // - Check the include guard macros to see which files have been // included // +-- For each of these files: register the components defined within // (guarded by a "registration guard macro") // - Define a macro to notify library headers #includeD later that the // Typeof support header has to be re-#includeD // (for large libraries this approach can be applied on a per-module basis) 3. The Typeof registration is put into the library's headers protected by some conditional. The user enables (or disables) Typeof support by defining a macro. Example: #define BOOST_A_LIB_TYPEOF_SUPPORT // ^^^ (or even do it in the Jamfile) #include <boost/a_lib/a_component.hpp>

[iostreams] file_descriptor openmode bug
by Takeshi Mouri 22 Jan '06

22 Jan '06

Hello, On Windows platform, I noticed that how to treat boost::file_descriptor and std::fstream's openmode was different. Here's the test code: (I tested on VC++8.0 with Boost 1.33.1) #include <boost/test/unit_test.hpp> #include <boost/iostreams/detail/ios.hpp> #include <windows.h> DWORD make_create_flags(BOOST_IOS::openmode m) { // copy from file_descriptor::open() DWORD dwDesiredAccess; DWORD dwCreationDisposition; if ( (m & (BOOST_IOS::in | BOOST_IOS::out)) == (BOOST_IOS::in | BOOST_IOS::out) ) { assert(!(m & BOOST_IOS::app)); dwDesiredAccess = GENERIC_READ | GENERIC_WRITE; dwCreationDisposition = (m & BOOST_IOS::trunc) ? #ifndef FIX OPEN_ALWAYS : #else CREATE_ALWAYS : #endif OPEN_EXISTING; } else if (m & BOOST_IOS::in) { assert(!(m & (BOOST_IOS::app |BOOST_IOS::trunc))); dwDesiredAccess = GENERIC_READ; dwCreationDisposition = OPEN_EXISTING; } else if (m & BOOST_IOS::out) { dwDesiredAccess = GENERIC_WRITE; #ifndef FIX dwCreationDisposition = OPEN_ALWAYS; #else dwCreationDisposition = (m & BOOST_IOS::app) ? OPEN_ALWAYS : CREATE_ALWAYS; #endif } return dwCreationDisposition; } struct test : BOOST_IOS { static void run() { BOOST_CHECK_EQUAL(make_create_flags(out), CREATE_ALWAYS); BOOST_CHECK_EQUAL(make_create_flags(out|app), OPEN_ALWAYS); BOOST_CHECK_EQUAL(make_create_flags(out|trunc), CREATE_ALWAYS); BOOST_CHECK_EQUAL(make_create_flags(in), OPEN_EXISTING); BOOST_CHECK_EQUAL(make_create_flags(in|out), OPEN_EXISTING); BOOST_CHECK_EQUAL(make_create_flags(in|out|trunc), CREATE_ALWAYS); // binary modes are omitted... } }; using boost::unit_test::test_suite; test_suite* init_unit_test_suite(int, char*[]) { test_suite* test = BOOST_TEST_SUITE("openmode test"); test->add(BOOST_TEST_CASE(&test::run)); return test; } These test cases are the one having derived it from the standard and some implementation of std::fstream. If a macro "FIX" is defined, all test cases are passed. Regards, Takeshi Mouri

[wave] pp-number bug?
by Alberto Ganesh Barbati 22 Jan '06

22 Jan '06

Hi, this post originates from thread "concatenation of power of negative number" in comp.std.c++ (http://tinyurl.com/asn95) Consider this file: ---- #include <boost/preprocessor/cat.hpp> BOOST_PP_CAT(1e, -1) ---- According to Paul Mensonides' reply in the thread, it should be eventually interpreted as <1e> ## <-> <1> thus the pp-number "1e" is concatenated with "-" obtaining the pp-number "1e-" and then "1" is appended as a separate token. The final result would thus be "1e- 1" (notice the blank between "-" and "1"). However, if run into Wave, the program above produces the error message: error: pasting the following two tokens does not give a valid preprocessing token: "e" and "-" Who's right? I'd agree with Paul Mensonides, because "1e" is a valid pp token which is to be formed before applying the ## operator. But my understanding is quite limited in this area so I commit myself to the Gurus. Ganesh
