[ptr_container] iterators bug
by Alexey Bakhvalov 17 Jun '05

17 Jun '05

I get compiler error if I try to compare ptr_vector::iterator with ptr_vector::const_iterator. (I use the latest library downloaded from Boost CVS repository) For example, the following code doesn't compile under VC 7.1: typedef boost::ptr_vector<char> TContainer; TContainer some_vector; for (TContainer::const_iterator it = some_vector.begin(); it != some_vector.end(); ++it) ; But it definitely should...

MPL: clever way to remove *all* duplicates in a (non integral) sequence?
by Brian Braatz 17 Jun '05

17 Jun '05

i.e. the example for mpl::unique shows: typedef vector<int, float, float, char, int, int, int, double> types; typedef vector<int, float, char, int, double> expected; typedef unique< types, is_same<_1,_2> >::type result; BOOST_MPL_ASSERT(( equal< result, expected > )); note that type "expected" : typedef vector<int, float, char, int, double> expected; still has TWO ints in it. I am looking for a way to basically do this: typedef vector<int, float, float, char, int, int, int, double> types; typedef vector<int, float, char, double> expected; typedef unique_all< types, is_same<_1,_2> >::type result; BOOST_MPL_ASSERT(( equal< result, expected > )); (note the examples I am using use integral types, in my situation I am not using integral types) I dug through the archives and found a few mentions of people asking this question and talking about it- but no substantial solution. any help appreciated Thanks Brian :)

[Function Types] Review Reminder - just this weekend left for your reviews.
by John Maddock 17 Jun '05

17 Jun '05

This is to remind everyone that we have a review going on at present for Tobias Schwinger's Function Types library. The review period is due to end on the 20th June, which gives everyone just this weekend to take a look at Tobias submission, I'd really like to encourage as many folks as possible to take a look: if necessary we'll also extend the end of the review period if there's demand or to cope with late reviews. We'd particularly like to hear from potential users of this library. Here are the details again: Available from the sandbox at: http://boost-sandbox.sourceforge.net/vault/ or the zip file is: http://boost-sandbox.sourceforge.net/vault/index.php?action=downloadfile&fi… This library provides a metaprogramming facility to classify, decompose and synthesize function-, function pointer-, function reference- and member function pointer types. For the purpose of this documentation, these types are collectively referred to as function types (this differs from the standard definition and redefines the term from a programmer's perspective to refer to the most common types that involve functions). The classes introduced by this library shall conform to the concepts of the Boost Metaprogramming library (MPL). The Function Types library enables the user to: * test an arbitrary type for being a function type of specified kind, * inspect properties of function types, * view and modify sub types of an encapsulated function type with MPL Sequence operations, and * synthesize function types. This library supports variadic functions and can be configured to support non-default calling conventions. (The following is taken from : http://www.boost.org/more/formal_review_process.htm ) Here are some questions you might want to answer in your review: What is your evaluation of the design? What is your evaluation of the implementation? What is your evaluation of the documentation? What is your evaluation of the potential usefulness of the library? Did you try to use the library? With what compiler? Did you have any problems? How much effort did you put into your evaluation? A glance? A quick reading? In-depth study? Are you knowledgeable about the problem domain? And finally, every review should answer this question: Do you think the library should be accepted as a Boost library? Be sure to say this explicitly so that your other comments don't obscure your overall opinion. John Maddock (Function Types review manager).

Re: [boost] Header error using boost.regex 1.32 built using vc6

----Original Message---- From: Martyn Woerner [mailto:martyn.woerner@tesco.net] Sent: 17 June 2005 08:31 To: boost(a)lists.boost.org Subject: Re: [boost] Header error using boost.regex 1.32 built using vc6 > Mea culpa. I don't think you have (sinned that is), or at least not here. > My test program had a preceding header that included > "using namespace std;". I'd read it was bad practice, now I know > why. Sorry to waste your time. Putting "using namespace std;" before including a boost header ought to be legal. I would regard it as a bug if a boost library failed because of a preceeding "using namespace std;" ON A STANDARDS CONFORMING COMPILER. On the other hand, VC6 is very far from a standards conforming compiler, so it seems perfectly reasonable to require users not to do that. It would be nice if there was warning somewhere in the documentation "that error means you have done this, and we can't cope if you have to use VC6". -- Martin Bonner Martin.Bonner(a)Pitechnology.com Pi Technology, Milton Hall, Ely Road, Milton, Cambridge, CB4 6WZ, ENGLAND Tel: +44 (0)1223 441434

Header error using boost.regex 1.32 built using vc6
by Martyn Woerner 17 Jun '05

Hi Folks, I'm a newbie gingerly moving over from MFC. I have built and installed regex from the boost_1_32_0 package without any obvious problem. Now I've included the simplest use of regex taken from the overview and: a) I get a compile error in regbase.hpp. As a temporary workaround I've tried using V3 instead and: b) I get a link error (debug & release) Can someone help me overcome this please? Many thanks. I have: #include <boost/cregex.hpp> //#define BOOST_REGEX_V3 #include <boost/regex.hpp> using namespace boost; ... // regexp test const std::string s = "sdflsjhslad"; static const boost::regex e("(\\d{4}[- ]){3}\\d{4}"); if (regex_match(s, e)) ASSERT(true); else; ASSERT(true); ... which gives the following: Compiling... fstream_test.cpp won't compile using VC++ 6.0
by Jason Heyes 17 Jun '05

17 Jun '05

I receive errors when I try to compile fstream_test.cpp using Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0. The first error I receive is this: fstream_test.cpp c:\boost\include\boost-1_32\boost\filesystem\fstream.hpp(29): error C2504: 'basic_filebuf<char,char_traits<char> >': base class undefined c:\projects\examples\fstream_test.cpp(27): see reference to class template instantiation 'boost::filesystem::basic_filebuf<char,char_traits<char> >' being compiled Is there a workaround for this? Thanks.

lexical_cast update + Boost.Test question
by Terje Slettebø 16 Jun '05

16 Jun '05

Hi. lexical_cast has now been updated in the CVS, with the following, as has been reported as bugs or suggested improvements: - Fixed so it doesn't trim any whitespace when converting (it used to throw on " 123" -> int, but not on "123 " -> int, which was inconsistent). - Fixed reversed bad_lexical_cast constructor arguments. - lexical_cast now uses pass-by-const reference. For compilers lacking support for partial specialisation of class templates (like MSVC 6), it falls back on pass-by-value. Sorry for the late update. It's been quite busy at work lately, so it's been hard to concentrate on non-work projects, but I'm now more on top of things. I'll read up on any lexical_cast-related postings, and can make subsequent updates, should it be desired. I'll also check up the results after the next regression test run, to see if there are any remaining issues. The changes are of course done in cooperation with Kevlin. It has been tested on Intel C++ 7.1, MSVC 2005 Final Beta, g++ 3.4 and Borland C++ Builder X, and all tests pass there. I get errors (from Boost.Test) when trying to run the test on MSVC 6, but testing lexical_cast by itself seems to work. Might Boost.Test have a problem with MSVC 6? By the way, I don't see the changes using the Boost ViewCVS, but it's listed e.g. with "log". Are the ViewCVS results cached, somehow, or may the commit have ended up on some other place than the trunk? I did make sure to check out the trunk, before commit. Regards, Terje
