I agree with you. Maybe a facility for naming subvariants would help.
The output directory would be the name of the subvariant et voilà,
problem solved. Sounds almost too easy, I wonder what I missed. :-)

I will try this. But I have a nagging feeling that it will fail
later when invoking the compiler. :-)
