bjam and cygwin

I finally decided to give bjam a try on cygwin w/ the following results:

....lots of output.... ending with....

...failed updating 80 targets...
...skipped 76 targets...
...updated 3548 targets...

I have NO idea what the boost-1__1 is from... this is from the "set" command
BOOST_ROOT='c:\boost'
BOOST_VERSION=1_31

also, when I try to run it after it finished everything (to try to collect 
just the errors) it blows up and asks for sending an error report to 
Microsoft (which I did). I'm going to restart cygwin and try again but the 
peculiar directory name seems a bit odd.
