gcc version 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-13)
GNU ld version 2.15

I know for sure that if you use 3.3.5 and any later binutils, you'll get this problem.
I believe that gcc 4.0.whatever works with current binutils for sure.
I don't know if any later version in 3.3 or 3.4 series works with current binutils.
