Never used valgrind so I'll most likely ask you for some more fedback
on this once I'm done with this bug.
Btw. I'm still working on the original issue and currently the
effects I can reproduce seem to be triggered by some temporary files
created and possibly removed (still not clear on that) while Boost Build
is doing its directory parsing. I do not get any unexplained behaviour
if I run everything with the '-j 1' option and have no other process
create/remove temporary files while Boost Build does its work.
It seems likely that this could be some preexisting error handling
issue with Boost Build and that my change just made it visible. I'll let
you know how it goes but if this is true - a correct fix should get rid
of some of those rare/spurious/non-reproducible test failures I've seen
reported in Boost Build test results from time to time... :-)
