I've tried changing the file type to UTF-8 in Textpad and inserting the
right å char from MS charmap.  This looks OK on the editor screen

 but doesn't parse right - see below.  (nor does \u00E5)

Have I misunderstood your suggestion, done it wrong, or maybe this just
won't work?

OK I'll keep looking - but you might like to ping me if you fix it.  Not
urgent but nice to fix for 1.45.
