And I'd also like to be able to disable the 'indent-means-a-code-box'
feature.

I would prefer to mark each code inline and code block explicitly with ` and
`` ... ``

(This would allow indenting to show structure, and prevent a single errant
leading space causing inscrutable mayhem).
