Looking at endian.hpp (and my tests output) it looks
for CPU type. In the case of VC8 the symbol
_M_IX86 is defined for x86 processors and there is no
such case in endian.hpp. Maybe that's the problem?

I can't find an equivalent for the intel compiler...
