The guideline still applies, but it's a guideline, not a rule (or else
it would probably be in the licence itself.)

Yours could just as well read:

Need to?  No.  Work is copyrighted regardless of a notice.

Should you?  Yes.  It makes it obvious what the licencing terms are
(which makes lawyers happy) and it removes any possibility of an
ignorance plea (which doesn't make for innocence, but would reduce
damages).
