The tar being used is tar (GNU tar) 1.25
Packaged by Cygwin (1.25-1)

The command used is:

     tar cfz %1.tar.gz %1

I'm not a regular tar user, so would need advice on how to solve the
problem. I don't even know what a GID is.

Suggestions welcomed!
