The rapid xml parser used by the property tree reads the input stream using stream buffer iterators. This means that if the stream has been imbued with a locale with a code conversion facet, then the code conversion facet is never invoked. It may be better if the stream were read using stream iterators. --Johan Råde

[future] Early draft of wait for multiple futures interface

We've been discussing the need to implement a mechanism to wait for multiple futures in a separate thread: www.nabble.com/Review-Request%3A-future-library-%28Gaskill-version%29-to166… I've come up with some interfaces which I find intuitive and useful. I've never implemented thread waiting, so please let me know if you think something like this is viable. ------------------------------ Proposal ------------------------------ A future can be constructed and thereafter wait on four different "future conditions" * a promise * a future_switch * a future_barrier * another future Each condition has a specified return type and the futures you create from it must match this type. They all have the same possible states - isn't ready, has value or an expression. I'd appreciate it if we could focus on determining whether this is a viable solution and the way we want to go before diving into details. These abstractions has the following property: A Users can compose conditions and poll them without the need of waiting. B We do not need to spawn extra threads for waiting - we only wait on the "outmost" future C Threads needn't awake and poll readiness - assuming the and/or logic is handled by waitingcode. D No "user logic" from the future-blocking threads propagate to the promise-fulfilling thread. E It's possible to implement efficient laziness by keeping readiness/waiting logic internal in the future library "wait for all" can be implemented without adding future_barrier, by simply calling wait() on all futures. We lose property A and E for "wait for all" if we do it this way. The blocking thread will awake unnecessarily many times. Property C means promise-fullfilling threads need to do some basic and/or logic. I think this can be implemented in a safe and efficient manner, O(log(N)) for barrier/all and O(1) for switch/any. I also think it is much preferable to waking and switching to future-blocking threads which re-check readiness conditions. Note property D. Some boost::function API, necessary for msf-1.2, are not supported: operator==(), empty(), clear(), contains() I said, ok not a biggie, I can just use polymorphic_function::target() and build something similar myself. boost::shared_ptr<> uses a locking mechanism when copies of a variable are made in order to increment the counter correctly in a multi-threaded application. For example: int main( int, char ** ) { boost::shared_ptr< ABC > sp1( new ABC ); for ( int i = 0; i < 1000000; ++i ) { boost::shared_ptr< ABC > sp2 = sp1; } return 0; } I would like to know if there are any platform-specific timing tests that have been performed where operational speed results have been recorded. Hi all, I've updated my futures library to include wait_for_any() and wait_for_all(). The provided overloads allow either waiting on up to five futures known at compile time: unique_future<int> f1; shared_future<std::string> f2; unique_future<double> f3; unsigned const ready_index=wait_for_any(future1,future2,future3); or on a container of futures: std::vector<jss::shared_future<int> > futures; std::vector<jss::shared_future<int> >::iterator const future= jss::wait_for_any(futures.begin(),futures.end()); In the first instance, they can be of distinct types, but in the latter, all the futures in the container must be of the same type. Hi, The bgl interface for leda (in leda_graph.hpp) breaks for leda 6.0 Partly because leda reorganized its header file which is not reflected in the leda_graph.hpp "leda/graph.h" is now "leda/graph/graph.h". [switch] #include <boost/switch.hpp> gives compiler error under MSVC !

This is very strange given that boost::switch has been dwnloaded from Vault 1637 times as of now. why is not boost::asio::deadline_timer.wait() blocking in this case?

While trying to understand the difference between wait() and async_wait, I modified the tutorial example a little to test 2 timers at the same time like this: int test_timer() { boost::asio::io_service io; size_t delay1 = 5; size_t delay2 = 3; boost::asio::deadline_timer t1(io, boost::posix_time::seconds(delay1)); boost::asio::deadline_timer t2(io, boost::posix_time::seconds(delay2)); boost::timer t; t2.wait(); std::cout << t.elapsed() << " sec elapsed!\n"; t1.wait(); std::cout << t.elapsed() << " sec elapsed!\n"; return 0; } I got this output: 3.004 sec elapsed! 5.007 sec elapsed! However, I was expecting t2 and t1 to execute sequentially and thus getting: 3.004 sec elapsed! 8 sec elapsed! What was wrong with my understanding about synchronous waiting here? Thanks.

Hello, excuse me, I am not sure whether this hasn't already been discussed or noted elsewhere, but aren't the allocator classes "pool_allocator<T,..>" and "fast_pool_allocator<T,..>" missing a template specialisation for T=void? In section 20.4.1 [lib.default.allocator] of the C++ standard 1998 the following specialisation is defined for class std::allocator: <code> template <class T> class allocator; // specialize for void: template <> class allocator<void> { public: typedef void* pointer; typedef const void* const_pointer; // reference-to-void members are impossible. typedef void value_type; template <class U> struct rebind { typedef allocator<U> other; }; }; </code> The library boost::multi_index, e.g., currently uses the std::allocator<void> notation.
