Hello,
I just committed a small fix to arith2.hpp, adding a missing #include
<cassert> to the header. This fixes the current breakage of the trunk on Tru64.
When adding this include I was wondering why interval doesn't use
BOOST_ASSERT? Is there any specific reason for this?

Currently the doc build in boost-root/doc is broken with what appears to be
problems with the date time library. Anyone any ideas?

The following code will compile fine on the ARM RVDS 3.0(EDG) compile
but when I compile it on the VC 8.0 compiler I get a type conversion
error. I can work around the error by explicitly calling the type
conversion operator but that makes it a but pointless.
I am building with boost 1.33.1.
Is this a known problem with VC 8 and boost::variant?

I'm going through the documentation and now have some questions.
I would hope that the documentation could be expanded to
include answers to these questions.
a) reference is made to a "lease" which sounds like a mutex
to me. But its not obvious to me how this should be used.
How does the compare with the pattern that I am more
familiar with
class s : singlton
mutex m_mutex
...
my_function(...){
scoped_lock(m_mutex);
...
}
OK - I've looked again and I think its clear to me how this
is to be used.
We need a tutorial here !!!!
b) reference is made to boost::restricted which I couldn't
find anywhere.

Hello,
when running the filesystem tests on Tru64, some files and directories with
unicode characters in their name are created in the current directory. When
running svn up in such a directory, it fails with the following error message:
boost-trunk/libs/filesystem/test> svn up
svn: Non-ASCII character (code 226) detected, and unable to convert to/from
UTF-8
When running boost regression tests, these files are normally created in
the status directory, and currently this prevents incremental testing
because svn aborts when it finds these files.
Is anybody else seeing this? Could these files perhaps be moved outside of
the source tree? Or perhaps not generated at all, because so far I haven't
figured out how to get rid of them, short of removing the whole directory
containing these files.

Many of the graph algorithms, e.g., dag_shortest_paths(), combine edge
weights to form distances along a path through the graph. Although
the default combine functor is based on addition, quite general ones
may be used. The naming of the distance_zero() named argument is
apparently based on the fact that zero (0) is the identity for
addition. However, for more general combine methods, zero (0) may not
be an identity. Indeed, the latter, i.e., identity, not the former,
i.e., zero (0), is in fact the relevant property for this argument
with respect to the algorithms. Consequently, it seems that this
argument is misnamed.
As part of the revision of the graph library, I suggest that this
named parameter be relabeled to distance_identity(). That would
capture its general meaning, regardless of the nature of the combine
method.

I'd love to get some feedback on a tiny utility I've been thinking about.
I oftenly create small objects which I just want to keep alive as long
as some other object exists. It is often RAII objects, but many other
types of small classes fall into this category.
A simple "user heap" could take ownership of such instances and delay
deletion until itself is deleted. The basic interface of - let's call
it heap - would look like this:
template<class T> T& heap::put(T*);
Example usage:
boost::shared_ptr<SomeView> view;
// Keep controller alive while view exits
view->get_heap().put(new SomeController(*view));
For classes with loads of RAII object members, usage could look like this:
class Foo {
Foo() {
keep_alive_.put(new RAIIBar(...));
keep_alive_.put(new RAIIWhatever(...));
}
private:
heap keep_alive_;
};
Support should be added for putting shared_ptrs and auto_ptrs. I have
a wide variety of naming suggestions and an extended interface for
premature deletion but I'll save those for a later post.
