Hi! This is basically the result of a discussion on the STLport mailinglist. The question came up what this code means: #if defined(_BIG_ENDIAN) 0x7f80 << (sizeof(int)*CHAR_BIT-16), #else 0x7f800000, #endif This is from detail/limits.hpp. The puzzling thing is that the result for big-endian targets is exactly the same, unless the size of an int is not 32 bit, but the size of the int has nothing to do with endianess still... I dug around a bit, and it was added some time ago by John Maddock with the comment that it adds support for big-endian SPARC machines, but later also used for big-endian MIPS and PPC. There also used to be a comment saying something like: "making this depend on big-endian targets is wrong, it's the layout of floats we care about, not the layout of integers when written to memory". This comment was removed when the ad-hoc endian detection was replaced with the centralized one. Can anybody see what this code is supposed to do? I understand that 0x7f800000 is an integer with the same bit layout as one of the special floating point constants, but I can't figure out why it would be any different on big-endian machines. Uli

This Fatal Error occurs when trying to compile a MSVC 2003 (SP1) project using the proposed Math Toolkit: C:\boost_1_34_0_beta\boost_1_34_0\boost\math\special_functions\log1p.hpp(195 ): error C2785: 'tools::promote_args<T>::type boost::math::log1p(T)' and 'double boost::math::log1p(double)' have different return types Any fix to this error? Hi! We are trying to convert every bit of boost docs to Quickbook so we can handle them easier and apply a new set of features that we have been developing. If you want to look at the last iteration of the new style, it is here: http://tinyurl.com/3yukos We need your authorization to help you in the translation process. It will be painless for you because we will translate your docs to Quickbook and do all the hard work. The only thing you will have to do is to edit .qbk files instead of .html files the next time you have to change your docs. Believe me when I say that it is very very easy to learn (ask anyone about this), your docs will be more maintainable and documenting will start to be a fun part of your boost work. After the translation we offer our time to help you learning Quickbook. We have two volunteers (Jake and Glyn) that are eagerly waiting for a first victim :) They are sending private email to authors but it will be nice to have a TODO list of docs to convert. Problems with serialization of weak_ptr

Hello, we have a problem when serializing weak_ptr. The second example below produces invalid XML where the same attributes appears two times with different values. It appears that both save and load using boost::serialization works, but other tools complains about the XML code being invalid. The example has been tested using Boost 1.33.1 in Visual Studio 2005. bug in either relaxed heap or dijkstra algorithm (or am I doing something wrong?)

I was getting an strange assertion failed using the dijkstra algorithm from the graph library. The line that fails with the assertion is line 175: assert(smallest_value->value != 0); I don't know how a relaxed heap works, but using assert(smallest_value!=0) would make more sense to me. My problem is that I am using the graph library with an adapted graph class, and I use the indices to some vector as vertex_descriptors, so there is one node with vertex_descriptor 0. The dijkstra algorithm uses the vertex descriptor as indices for the relaxes heap, and the assertion fails. Commenting out the assertion or changing it to what I wrote before (or, I guess, just defining NDEBUG), everything works just fine. Is there anyone who knows why this assertion is there and whether it can be safely removed? Thanks in advance, Xavi
