[proto][doc.tree_transformations]"Given expression of form" meaning?

The doc file: libs/xpressive/proto/doc/html/boost_proto/user_s_guide/tree_transformations.html contains: Second, unary_expr< _, CalculatorGrammar >, has a default transform associated with it. It is a pass-through transform. Given an expression of the form expr< T, arg1< X > >, the transform will invoke the CalculatorGrammar transform (which we haven't completely defined yet -- patience) on X resulting in Y, and then reassemble the expression as expr< T, arg1< Y > >. yet unary_expr<_, CalculatorGrammar >, defined in traits.hpp, is: template<typename Tag, typename T> struct unary_expr : has_pass_through_transform<unary_expr<Tag, T> > {...}; so it isn't of the form, expr<T,arg1<X> > for any T or X. OTOH, the nested unary_expr typedef: typedef expr<Tag, args1<T> > type; is of this form; so, I guess what's meant by "Given an expression of the form.." is "Given an expression of type, E, where E::type is of the form..."?

[function] how to create function objects from bind expr automatically

Hi! What I want to achieve: automatically build a boost::function from a bind expression without having to specifiy the signature. >From what I understand in the boost::bind code it is not possible to extract the signature, arity or return type information from an object returned by boost::bind. So I have no idea, how to write code that allows the registration of arbitrary function pointers as boost::function objects depending on the argument list. Any hint to possible solutions appreciated. I need more than 3 arguments, so boost::lambda::bind does not help here. Markus

[type_traits][patch] Feature request: trait to decompose a member into containing class and type

I've been looking through the documentation of type_traits and function_types(thanks for the tip grafikrobot) trying to find a trait that would let me decompose a pointer to member into the containing class and an independent type, but have found nothing. Is there such a trait somewhere in the boost libs? In case it isn't I offer a small patch for type_traits with the member_pointer_traits template struct, and the corresponding documentation. It is implemented like function_traits, only it's simpler. Briefly the struct has 2 typedefs: member_pointer_traits<int MyClass::*>::class_type yields MyClass member_pointer_traits<int MyClass::*>::member_type yields int -- Arnau

Hello, For those interested in the Signal Network GSoC project: The code is in the sandbox (in /SOC/2007/signals), I have added bjam build files, as well as a test and example file (which are the same at this point). iostreams version in BOOST 1.34

ptr_map new iterators

I haven't tried 1.34 yet, but I have a vague memory that the iterators for ptr_map were changed to have the same interface as std::map. (So, for instance, the key for iter is accessed with iter->first, instead of iter.key()). Is this true? And if so, can this be added to the list of changes for 1.34? I didn't see it there, and this is an important change, since it will break a lot of code. Thanks. -Lewis

BOOST_TYPEOF in 1.34 can't work with VC8

It seems that BOOSTTYPEOF in 1.34 doesn't work in VC8. I try to copy boost\typeof\msvc\typeof_impl.hpp and boost\typeof\typeof.hpp from CVS HEAD to 1.34 and it works. Did I do something wrong or there is a bug?

The Fusion "Polymorphic Function Object" concept has a nested member template called "result" for calculating the return type of the function object, but it is not result_of compliant.
