[regex] access to subexpressions

Hi is there a way to access the subexpressions in a tree-like manner? For instance, suppose I have this regular expression ((").*(\2)) that matches against this string test"ooo"foo the results are prefix: test what[0]: "ooo" what[1]: "ooo" length: 5 what[2]: " length: 1 what[3]: " length: 1 suffix: foo I need to format the matched part with tags, say, like this <matched> <sub>"</sub> ooo <sub>"</sub> </matched> but in order to do this, when I inspect what[1], I'd need to know that it has two subexpressions, while I cannot know that what[2] and what[3] are indeed subexpressions of what[1]... bug in 1.35's sp_counted_base_gcc_sparc.hpp

The cas _asm_ instruction for the gcc/sparc environment has a slight flaw: it does not prevent the gcc compiler from generating assembly that contains a invalid register/offset. In other words, the existing _asm_ can cause gcc to generate something like: cas [%i0+80], %i1, %i2 the relative offset is an illegal address mode for cas instruction. I'm not a sparc assembly guy, by any stretch of the imagination, but doing some reading at http://blogs.sun.com/wesolows/entry/gcc_inline_assembly_part_2 would seem to indicate that this code: inline int32_t compare_and_swap( int32_t * dest_, int32_t compare_, int32_t swap_ ) { __asm__ __volatile__( "cas %0, %2, %1" : "+m" (*dest_), "+r" (swap_) : "r" (compare_) : "memory" ); return swap_; } is not exactly correct. When using -O3 optimization option to gcc, the aforementioned "bad" cas instruction is generated. Base upon how much code there is surrounding the call to compare_and_swap(), different combinations of register allocation occurs and may or may not hide this problem. I'm done some experimenting and with the following code, gcc seems to generate the proper code: inline int32_t compare_and_swap( int32_t * dest_, int32_t compare_, int32_t swap_ ) { __asm__ __volatile__( "cas [%2], %3, %0" : "=&r" (swap_) : "0" (swap_), "r" (dest_), "r" (compare_) : "memory" ); return swap_; } Somebody with more experience in sparc should look this over. If it's good (or a better way), it would be nice to get it into the next version of boost that contains support for boost/detail/sp_counted_base_gcc_sparc.hpp. Jerry Lawson

The formal review of the Math Toolkit, submitted by John Maddock, Paul Bristow, Hubert Holin, and Xiaogang Zhang, begins today, April 11 and ends April 20. The library and documentation may be downloaded from the Boost Vault: http://www.boost-consulting.org/vault/index.php? &direction=0&order=&directory=Math%20-%20Numerics The Math Toolkit is divided into three interrelated components : 1) a reasonably comprehensive set of statistical distributions 2) a set of high quality special functions 3) tools needed to implement special functions Because this library subsumes a wide range of material, I anticipate that not all reviewers will feel comfortable reviewing the entirety of the library. In order to expand the potential reviewer and increase overall participation, partial reviews of one or more of the three components described above are encouraged. As this is a primarily numerical library, quality of implementation, both correctness and efficiency, is critical. The authors have provided an extensive set of tests, but, as always, more eyes catch more bugs. Attention paid to these areas by reviewers is particularly welcome. Your comments may be brief or lengthy, as long as they provide sufficient basis for the Review Manager to assess your evaluation of the library. Relevant areas include interface/design, implementation, relevance to Boost, etc... If you identify problems along the way, please note if they are minor, serious, or showstoppers. Here are some questions you might want to answer in your review: • What is your evaluation of the design? • What is your evaluation of the implementation? • What is your evaluation of the documentation? • What is your evaluation of the potential usefulness of the library? • Did you try to use the library?
