Boost.MPI is in CVS

The Boost.MPI library is now available in Boost CVS. We are still working on some aspects of the library, addressing review comments, updating documentation, and ramping up testing. However, at this time the library is usable and should be relatively stable. Cheers, Doug

customizing boost::function

Hi, I would like to get some feedback on some changes that I would like to make to boost::function for my own use only and I figured that this would be the best place for it. I basically want to detect if there is a NULL "this" bound to a member function. I want to do this so that i can prevent dereferencing a NULL pointer when calling a member function. conversion operator to boost function

Hi all, The following code compiles on mingw (gcc 3.4.5) but not on VC++ 8.0 express, and I am asking if anyone could tell me which compiler is right. Here is simple test case: struct caster { template<class T> operator boost::function<T>() const; }; void func(boost::function<void(int)>) { } void foo() { func(caster()); } This compiles on mingw (it doesn't link obviously) but it won't even compile on VC++ 8.0 express. I am assuming one or the other is incorrect (perhaps they both are) so which is it? and also, is there a proper way to do that conversion that would work on both compilers. doing a specific conversion operator boost::function<void(int)> does work on both, but not the template. I have singleton class X. The instance of X is constructed the first time it is used, and is destroyed during the static destruction phase at app termination. X::X() reads data from a ptree X::~X() writes data to a ptree My app crashes in X::~X(). The reason is that ptree uses static variables, for instance in the following function: ptree_implementation.h: template<class Ptree> inline const Ptree &empty_ptree() { static Ptree pt; return pt; } Would it be possible to remove the static variables from the ptree code? That would make it safe to use ptree during the static destruction phase. There are several static variables in the ptree code, and they all seem to be optimizations. Maybe they are not needed. --Johan
