Well, I think I got it.
The change has be between 2003-07-18 and 2003-07-19.
(cvs co -D 2003-07-18 etc.)
It's definitely a boost-build problem. I've tested this with current
bjam and bjam from 2003-07-09. The same behaviour ;-(
The memory consumption goes up, as does the number of targets ...
The target number increases from 25.000 to 36.000, while the memory
usage goes up from 250 MB to 1350 MB.

For I'm developing on Win32 at the moment, my linux-box can do most of
the "work" alone (waiting for SF checkouts....)
When you need more information, drop me a hint. I'll look into this
tomorrow. Unfortunately, I'll be on vacation from wednesday on until
friday.
