Mainly.
The platform maintainer should be someone with an intimate knowledge of
a platform, its foibles and its workarounds. They are far more likely
to know the right hacks to get new libraries working on their platform,
and to track new releases of that compiler to revise configs and
workarounds.
Ideally, having a platform maintainer for a given target would help
ensure a consistent application of hacks and patches on that platform
rather than each library maintainer finding their own particular
workaround for a given platform deficiency.
They should liase closely with John Maddock on maintaining the config
library. John's life in particular should get much simpler with
platform maintainers contributing configs as new compiler
versions/patches are released.
