Did you compile with the debug version of boost::thread or the release
version??? Sorry, I don't quite understand the meaning of "Can't help
debug".

Can't help debug, but I copied your code verbatim and it compiled and
ran ok for me on suse 10, x86_64, gcc 4.0.2(pre) with default. cout
in calculate gave expected results for numThreads ==2 and ==9.
