*sigh*, as if I hadn’t known it, that program too fails at the very same assertion, „basic_iarchive.cpp“ at line 390. Uncommenting that line, of course, does no good either and leaves me with another segmentation fault: /test_serialize.exe Serialized form: 22 serialization::archive 4 0 1 2 7 derived 1 0 0 1 0 1 10 derived id Segmentation fault What’s wrong with my compiler anyway? Or with the class ids it generates? Thanks so far and greeetz Kessi No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Boost Serialization of shared_ptr

Hi folks Currently I’m having quite some trouble with the boost serialization library. Take the following classes as given: ProtocolFactory.h: #ifndef PROTOCOLFACTORY_H_ #define PROTOCOLFACTORY_H_ #include <boost/serialization/access.hpp> #include <boost/serialization/is_abstract.hpp> #include <boost/shared_ptr.hpp> class Meter; } const vector<string> &MeterType::getRequestedDataItems() const { return requestedDataItems; } const ProtocolFactoryPtr &MeterType::getSupportedProtocols() const { return supportedProtocols; } Phew. Quite a list, I know :) . Anyway, to serialize these classes, I wrote the following code: { ofstream ofs("testIt.xml"); archive::xml_oarchive oxml(ofs); oxml << serialization::make_nvp("supportedProtocols", iec1107); } ProtocolFactoryPtr newProtocolFactory; ifstream ifs("testIt.xml"); archive::xml_iarchive ixml(ifs); ixml >> serialization::make_nvp("supportedProtocols", newProtocolFactory); which, however, throws an assert-failure in „basic_iarchive.cpp“ at line 390. Uncommenting that line and recompiling allows me to fully and correctly execute the above code. However, when trying this: { ofstream ofs("testIt.xml"); archive::xml_oarchive oxml(ofs); oxml << serialization::make_nvp("ZMD120", zmd120); } MeterTypePtr newType; ifstream ifs("testIt.xml"); archive::xml_iarchive ixml(ifs); ixml >> serialization::make_nvp("ZMD120", zmd120); The Program crashes with a segmentation fault. Using Insight, i found the very line this happens: It’s in „MeterType.inc“ at line 22: „ar & make_nvp(„SupportedProtocols“, supportedProtocols); Since I imagine this to be more or less exactly the same code as I executed before, without the MeterType class, I’m not quite sure why this should fail. Anyway, can anyone lend me a hand here? Firstly, why would the assertion error occur? And why does serializing ProtocolFactoryPtr one time work and another time fail? Thank you for any help and best regards Kessi _________________________________________________________________ Drück deine Gefühle aus! regex_regress fails under intel-linux-10.0

Hi, This test, regex_regress, is failing under intel-10 with this error message. Oh yeah, right, I forgot: I am using Boost version 1.34.1 and gcc version 3.3.2, which is part of a toolchain for our embedded target system (and thus quite irreplaceable). Here’s the output xml file the before posted code generates: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?> <!DOCTYPE boost_serialization> <boost_serialization signature="serialization::archive" version="4"> <ZMD120 class_id="0" tracking_level="0" version="1"> <px class_id="1" tracking_level="1" version="0" object_id="_0"> <TypeName>ZMD120</TypeName> <RequestedDataItems class_id="2" tracking_level="0" version="0"> <count>3</count> <item_version>0</item_version> <item>1.8.1</item> <item>1.8.2</item> <item>F.F</item> </RequestedDataItems> <SupportedProtocols class_id="3" tracking_level="0" version="1"> <px class_id="5" class_name="MeteringProtocolCompositeFactory" tracking_level="1" version="0" object_id="_1"> <IncludedProtocols class_id="6" tracking_level="0" version="0"> <count>1</count> <item_version>1</item_version> <item> <px class_id="7" class_name="Iec1107OverSerialFactory" tracking_level="1" version="0" object_id="_2"> <ProtocolFactory class_id="4" tracking_level="1" version="0" object_id="_3"></ProtocolFactory> </px> </item> </IncludedProtocols> <ProtocolFactory object_id="_4"></ProtocolFactory> </px> </SupportedProtocols> </px> </ZMD120> </boost_serialization> No virus found in this outgoing message. Doesn't look like it: /usr/local/src/boost.hg/boost/random/variate_generator.hpp:120: error: no type named ‘input_type’ in ‘class boost::uniform_01<boost::random::mersenne_twister<unsigned int, 32, 624, 397, 31, 2567483615u, 11, 7, 2636928640u, 15, 4022730752u, 18, 3346425566u>, double>’

BoostCon 2008: May 4-9
by David Abrahams 27 Dec '07

27 Dec '07

The 2nd annual Boost Conference has been scheduled for May 4-9 2008. Please save the date! Registration should open sometime in the next week. If you want to stay at the Aspen Meadows (highly recommended as it is within walking distance of the conference venue and was the site of great after-hours discussions in '07), it's especially important this year that you book your rooms early. Since, unlike last year, Aspen's airport will be open this May, demand for rooms has been heavy. In fact, the following week, which we tried to get, was snapped up by another group before we even had a chance to catch our breath, just weeks after BoostCon'07 ended. We'll be working hard on getting the program together for 2008 over the coming weeks. We hope to include many more Boost authors and contributors, and build in several more intensive library-specific sessions, to make 2008 better than ever. Please send any questions to the BoostCon planning committee at: boostcon-plan(a)lists.boost-consulting.com Those of you who didn't make it to BoostCon'07 may want to have a look at the photo gallery at http://boostcon.com/community/photos, peruse the 2007 program at http://boostcon.com/program, and check out the two trip reports mentioned here: http://boostcon.com/news/2007/Jul/16/yet-another-trip-report. See you in Aspen! -- The BoostCon Planning Committee

[serialization] small documentation inconsistency
by Ronald Garcia 27 Dec '07

27 Dec '07

In browsing the boost.serialization documentation, I came across the following in the rationale section: BOOST_SERIALIZATION_TRACKING(construct_from, track_never) It appears that the name of that macro has at some point been changed to BOOST_CLASS_TRACKING. Cheers, ron
