Hi, I want to toss a coin in c++. I don't want to use variate_generator because my program use it many million times. The code is: boost::mt19937 mt; boost::detail::uniform_smallint_integer<boost::mt19937, bool> coin(mt, false, true); and the error (with gdb) is: boost::detail::uniform_smallint_integer<boost::random::mersenne_twister<unsigned int, 32, 624, 397, 31, 2567483615u, 11, 7, 2636928640u, 15, 4022730752u, 18, 3346425566u>, bool>::operator() (this=0x804d9e4) at /usr/include/boost/random/uniform_smallint.hpp:67 67 return (((*_rng)() - (_rng->min)()) / _factor) % _range + _min; because _factor = 0 and we don't know to divide by 0, aren't we? [iostreams] Partly not merged from RC_1_33_0 to HEAD?

Looking at the file boost/iostreams/chain.hpp I am pretty sure that at least this file has never been merged from RC_1_33_0 to HEAD. OTOH, the file char_traits.hpp seems to have been merged. So it looks like the library currently is in an inconsistent state or at least missing some fixes from the 1.33 release branch, could the author of the library please take a look at this? Markus

VC8 no ADL in some cases

Hi , I thought I'd download and try out VC8 . (Actual version at the bottom of post), however when used on my Tentative Boost quantities library, if I Use expressions on quantities at global function body scope(IOW functions not in boost::pqs namespace ) it complains that : : error C2676: binary '-' : 'const boost::pqs::t1_quantity<AbstractQuantity,Units,Value_type>' does not define this operator or a conversion to a type acceptable to the predefined operator with [ AbstractQuantity=boost::pqs::meta::components::of_velocity::type, Units=boost::pqs::meta::si_unit::none, Value_type=boost::pqs::quantity_traits::default_value_type ] (operator - is defined in same namespace as the type however.) The current workaround is just to define the operators in global namespace for this compiler( I know its not legal! but it gets around the problem). I'm wondering if anyone else has found this sort of problem in VC8.0? OTOH If there may be some reason , some two-phase lookup rule or something that is preventing these operations being found. (It seems simple to me. The types are defined in namespace boost::pqs. The operations on them are defined in boost::pqs. Whats the problem?) Interest in static-sized valarray

Hello, I am trying to guage interest in a fixed sized version of valarray. I frequently found myself using small(-ish) compile-time known sized numeric arrays that don't justify the overhead of operator new in std::valarray but needed the math interface that valarray provided. I wrote a static-sized version of valarray for this purpose. It is modeled after std::valarray and implements about 90% of valarray's interface (obviously resizing is not included, neither is gslice due to the result not being known at compile time). Examples of it's use are: float _v[10] = {...}; size_t _i[5] = {...}; cvalarray<float,10> v1(_v); cvalarray<float,5> v2 = v1[cslice<0,5,2>()]; v1[cslice<0,3,3>()] = 0.0f; cvalarray<size_t,5> ind(_i); cvalarray<float,5> cvalB = v1[ind]; v2 *= (v2 + v1) / 2.0; //all of the usual math ops I have a complete implementation that models std::valarray in every possible way (with compile-time known limitations) including expression-template support for the numeric ops. My testing indicates a decent performance increase over gcc4's valarray for small number of elements <1000. If anyone has any interest, I'll put together some docs and throw it in the sandbox. Since there's already example usage, and comments in the code, it wouldn't be that hard for me to pull it out, and put it into a formal document. I already have visited the submission link, and I just check it again, and I don't see where in the process the documentation should be developed. Moreover, I don't see any documentation for the current smart_ptr (policy_ptr) class that is in the boost vault. In any case, I expect to have the first draft of the documentation done shotly.

New Borland compiler has a conforming preprocessor?

Borland put some work into their preprocessor for the new release, so I have tried running the preprocessor library regression tests with the extra lines: # elif defined(__BORLANDC__) && __BORLANDC__ >= 0x581 # define BOOST_PP_CONFIG_FLAGS() (BOOST_PP_CONFIG_STRICT()) So far so good. I am far from a preprocessor expert though, and wonder what other tests I should look at before pushing this update? I believe Borland also support variadic macros, is there any way to enable this in the PP config? [not sure about _Pragma support. Anything else I should look for in a C++0x/C99 preprocessor?] -- AlisdairM
