The #include "../always_false.hpp" header that's in the no_copy.hpp would be hard to pick up if it's compiled in an existing working environment, that already has that file.

Just found the link to it: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/boost-sandbox/boost-sandbox/libs/polic y_ptr/test/ I downloaded both the test code, and the policy_ptr code, and the policy_ptr code does not compile. I tried compiling it on VC++ 7.1 and GNU 3.x, and both fail to compile the code. Boost\Policy_ptr\Policy\no_copy.hpp The above header gives a compile error for the following line: #include "../always_false.hpp" //(Line 12) Boost\Policy_ptr\Policy\ref_counted.hpp The above header gives the following error: Boost\Policy_ptr\Policy\ref_counted.hpp(155) : error C2061: syntax error : identifier 'U' Line 155 has the following: BOOST_SP_DECLARE_TEMPLATE_FRIEND(U, ref_counted_, 2) I also notice the following: // In Boost\Policy_ptr\Policy\ref_linked.hpp Line 20 ref_node(void) : prev_(this), next_(this) { } I would think the above code would result in undefined behavior, since a pointer to an object that is not yet fully constructed is being pass to a data member. I'm not sure how the above code would have been tested, if it's not compliable.

The only advantage I found with reference-count is that it requires less memory. Other than that, in my test it performs the worse when compared to reference-link and reference-intrusive. I don't understand why reference-count was picked instead of reference-link for the boost::shared_ptr

boost::iostream - no way to set failbit or badbit in stream from device?
by Oliver.Kowalke＠infineon.com 30 Jan '06

30 Jan '06

Hallo, how can I set failbit or badbit in boost::iostream::stream if I detect some error in boost::iostream::device::read/write? Is it possible without throwing exceptions? Example: in the write method of a device which models a socket connection an EPIPE error (peer has closed socket) was detected. How can I set the boost::iostream::stream (which uses the device) to be not useable? Regards, Oliver

I'll try to cut it down to 100 columns. I find 80 to be too limiting, and most developers now days have access to editors with wider column view. It does not support any other weak_ptr specific feature. > > the boost vault, and the class is ready for use. > > I've compiled and run the policy_ptr tests with g++. Do you have any example code? I like to see some usage example for policy_ptr. Just looking at the policy_ptr code is very confusing, and it is hard to tell how to use it. > > In my performance test, the shared and COW policies along with > > reference-link policy, are able to out perform the > > boost::shared_ptr. > > Could this be due to shared_ptr having two refcounts and smart_ptr > having just one? No. In general, reference-link is able to out perform reference-count logic. Smart_ptr has a policy for both methods, where-as shared_ptr only does reference-count.

Hi, The following code: #include <boost/preprocessor/control/if.hpp> #include <boost/preprocessor/enum_params.hpp> BOOST_PP_ENUM_PARAMS(3, p) BOOST_PP_IF(1, BOOST_PP_ENUM_PARAMS(3, p), blah) results in the following text (vc71, main CVS): p0 , p1 , p2 p0 and a warning: to many parameters for BOOST_PP_IIF_1. What's wrong? Regards, Arkadiy
